now let's make one thing clear: im not advocating public drunkenness. i think most of us would agree that having a beer or two (or six) is a socially acceptable way to end the day, but all too often, we are obliged to hide our cans when law enforcement arrives, costing us precious drinking time.

now, i don't advocate public drunkenness, which is why i don't feel that public drinking should be legalized. i just think that we should be able to sit at the park and drink a tallboy with the confidence of knowing that at most, the police will at most check that we're 21 and ask us to leave.

no more open container tickets!

When I used to drink alcohol I did enjoy drinking at beaches or outdoor bars or parks...but frankly the laws make sense. There is not much more gross than going to a park or the beach and finding empties and broken glass...

I agree with what your saying.

Unfortunately the majority of time police have to arrest somebody or deal with somebody is being impossible, that person is under the influence of alcohol.

Most people that drink do it in a responsible manner. When the police have to get involved it is usually when a person is acting terrible. I think the good thing about having to keep it down is to keep yourself in check. People as you know can get really outta line while under the influence of alcohol. I think police enforce this law just to let the steam out of someone who might potential be a problem in the very near future. I can see why they enforce this with vigor. I have been let go without a citation numerous times by just taking sense to the officer, showing that I'm going to be a jerk later on. Sometimes not, but it is only a hundred and some change in a fine, so it's not the end of the world if they don't let you go. I went to court one time and the judge reduced the fine to $10. This is much cheaper to have to pay a court tax every now and then, as oppose to drinking in a bar.
