I think and your statement seems to prove this what I'm about to say.
That you are INTOLERANT of people who might be somewhat illiterate, or might have dyslexia.
yup it common in our society to not just have acceptance of somebody who doesn't know what you know, or how to do what you know how to do. NO not everybody get things the same way, or can understand things so easily.
Fuzz, I think you're giving people too much credit. Being that I used to work for the LAUSD, I've seen the "products" of these schools come out sans the basic skills that many people that are older take for granted. Perhaps spell check does more to make people's spelling lazy?

Its interesting how upset people get by the use of bad spelling and grammar.
Personally I have always had trouble spelling, and if my browser didn't have a spell check you'd all prolly think i was a sub-literate boob.

If anyone is interested, look up "The Language Instinct" by Steven Pinker. It is a very interesting read on the evolution of language. He even explains why "I couldn't care less" is turning into (has already turned into) "I could care less" and there's nothing we can do about it. This was a pet peeve of mine, so it took some reconciliation, but I must admit he had me convinced in the end (about language evolution, not "I could care less".)
That all said, I am a great fan of ain't. Proper or not, it is a useful word and it is staying in my lexicon... Propriety Be Damned!

All the spelling and grammar problems of the forums have finally been sorted out, right? Good. Now let's see what we can do about the self-entitlement, trollishness and rampant stupidity*.
I can tolerate bad spelling and grammar, but dumb ideas are dumb ideas, and more often than not lately, the grammatically challenged posters are full of the dumbness. Is it unfair to call out stupid people for being stupid, or selfish narcissists for their selfish narcissism? I mean, it may be futile, but it's entirely fair.
Actually, this rant is a bit late, because I think that the forums are a little better now than they were a few months ago. Or maybe they're not. Maybe it's just that reading these threads has killed off whatever was left of my critical thinking skills. That's completely pososible.
*Actually, maybe we can keep some of the stupidity. Threads like "SYPHILLIS" and "i need a cog" are simply too valuable to let go.
for better or worse "self-entitlement" is an american value.
the big revolution in America is that in the old country only the royalty felt self entitled.
here every douche from a street bum on up the the president feel self-entitled one way or another. and for better or worse one intelligence, education, are articulateness (or lack there of) doesn't seem to dampen anybody's sense of self entitlement.
The dumb and ignorant with their bad ideas are often just as self absorbed and brimming with entitlement as the educated, smart, rich and successful.
And thank jesus for that.
