i was just watching colbert report and i saw an ad for jc penny's fall sale and im like.. oh look they have a guy skateboarding with a suit on ...
..wait for it..

theres a guy with a pullover carrying a fixedgear with orange oury grips and super wide handlebars, down some stairs... oh wait.. he looks like ... no. ... hes going to ride it...

JOKER was in that CSI I think. He also did an ad with bike polo for Toyota.

Actually it was CSI:NY and yes 818 Bike Polo was cast as the polo players, for authenticity... Look it's Dave from LA BRAKELESS!!!

I think it was mainstream as soon as Trek, Specialized and Cannondale offer a "fixie" that was not track specific. The Langster, Capo, etc have been around for a couple of years.

This whole bike mainstreamism is like when some one says something really funny in class really quietly and then the d bag football player repeats the same thing the quiet kid just said but louder so everyone laughs... the moral is, don't be pissed that your not a loud douche bag.

Well... My agent has advised me not to offer specifics on contractual agreements as it could hinder future negotiations as my career blossoms... but suffice it to say, I earned enuff to fly to Portland, roundtrip with my bike to compete in a tournament up there, with plenty leftover to afford 'party favors' and new blingy bike parts... but about half what I got for appearing in an ad for Toyota...

Just stroll down Melrose. Nearly every shop has a "pretty fixie" in it's window as an accessory/decoration for whatever they're selling. It's amusing.

Oh gawd I really hope to not see any huge celebrity with a fixie in the media. From that very SECOND there's going to be all sorts of people selling their hybrids for commercial built fixies and track bikes and end up never breaking 10 mph thinking they're the new beach cruiser. Then again it wont be too bad for more than a couple years wherein everyone will ditch they're bikes and start riding electric Vespa's like it's fucking Italy or something.

Werd. I'd rock a Vespa any day, though. We need to be a bit more like Europe over here in the US. Especially the Mid West and the South. We do NOT need Impalas so lifted and with 800lb wheels that they're technically classified as trucks.

Want to talk mainstream? I got stopped by a crossing guard at the school next to my house and as I'm standing there some little ten year old kid yells out "Is that a fixie?" So I just gave him a smile and a thumbs up.

my experience is kind of similar... and it goes with this thread...
you ride your non-fixed bike (because we all know there are fixies, and bikes that are not fixed).... anyhow, you ride your non-fixed rig, and some 10 year old on his fixie sees you and says:
"Is that your bike?"
--yeah
"thats not a bike, its not even fixed..."
--huh?
"CRANK MOB BITCH!!!"

I was at this salad place and a kid who worked there asked about my bike...said he wants to get a fixie.

I hope fixies dobecome super mainstream. I hope to turn on the TV and see Tina Fay riding one on 30 Rock or Bike Polo on Real World.
The more people on bikes the better, especially yuppies. Yuppies are a preious demographic for politicians. They vote in high numbers and they donate. The more yuppie bike riders the better.
I don't actually care if they ride fixed, freewheel, track, cruisers, or whatever. The more people on bikes the better.
