New article on the person behind Islands of LA. Ari Kletzky of Islands of LA did a workshop recently at FarmLab. He expressed alot of interest when asked if he would be interested in doing a bike ride revolving around his on going project. I'm thinking something will happen this summer. In the mean time, enjoy.......

Kletzky's aim is as multilayered and unconventional as the city it embroiders, drawing attention to islands of every shape, size and intention. "The signs are a way to start a conversation and an education," says Kletzky, whose project is still in the exploratory stages. "They are a gesture. An appetizer that inspires an appetite. I'm looking to generate discussion to explore use of public space by turning islands into a work of art."

 Cool idea. Would make an interesting ride. The project itself reminds me of this, just a little. I think anything that gets people in their cars to pay more attention or interact with the "outside world" is a step forward.

 riding down sunset tonight i passed one of the signs for the islands of la. i think it was after sunset junction? it caught my eye because i had never seen a sign like that and i thought it was odd.

Does anyone know where this island is? It would be great to ride by this on the LACM ride. Not that I'm advocating a set route or anything. Just if we were in the area and stuff. Ya know!

 I've seen a bunch of em. ANyway, the one in west LA is absurd. it really is. It's fenced off so completely that you can't even get in there in the daytime. it's like a park in prison.
