WINBLOWS idea of "enhanced" security it to pop a warning every fucking time you click on something like a zip or yada yada
so in other words their tired ass sloppy programming by moronic programmer bearucraps couldnt get their shit together so rather than program a seemless and secure experience they pass the legal onus on to consumer cattle dumbasses who dont know shit from a shingle when it comes to compooters. that's ME!! and when EVER has a WINBLOWS diagnostic tool actually fixed something?! NEVER!! IN!!! THE!! HISTORY!! OF!! COMPOOOOTERS!!!!

If I lived next to BILL GATES I would invent a giant robotic arm that could telescope all the way over into his yard and pinch his wife's ass and bitch slap dude across the back of the head like Benny Hill. then I would have a party with IMACS all over my front lawn that would cause him to raise an issue with the homeowners association!!!

Mac, PC, Linux are all become pretty irrelevant. Does it really matter for 90 percent of users as long as they all run Firefox?

@PC
At least we're not paying for software.
But you're right. Linux sound issues are a BITCH, generally. I can't get my debian machine to play any flash sounds, ever.
But then again, it's better than dealing with a bloated ass W32 system, and having 0 control over how the OS operates.
kyber03.12.08 - 5:06 pm

OK, so I took "acpi=off" and "noapic" out of the boot parameters in my grub menu, and now my sound card is detected and works. Hooray. But the reason I put them in is because without them, Ubuntu wouldn't (and doesn't) even finish booting up half the time.
So apparently I can have sound that works OR a system that doesn't crash randomly.
I am going to go ride my bicycle soon.

Who the hell pays for Windows anyway? Linux being free doesnt mean anything, really.
Linux is not ready for Joe User to switch to, period.
Vista is a bloated pile of W32 that M$ should be ashamed of. It took them 4 years, 2 rewrites, and STILL sucks ass.
OS X gets it more right than anyone, but Macs are fecking expensive, and Apple still isn't perfect. At least their OS just works more often than not.

a STEAMING BLOATED PILE OF KAAAAARAAAAAPPPP!!!!!
steaming!
If I were BILL GATES neighbor I would first of all be so rich that I would own 3 great danes and 3 st. bernhards. I would feed them healthy, meaty grass fed free range kobe beef. I would have my own private dog park and I would pay the butler overtime to hurl morning fresh steaming dog doads into BG's fucking backyard.

For starters, I am not Joe User.
And yes, free does mean something. It means you're not paying 800 dollars for information that wants to be free. That's one tiny part of it. But the biggest part of "free" means that I can do whatever the hell I feel like with the software.
And while it's nice that I don't pay for software, per se, I have made donations in the form of time beta testing software etc.
I'm not trying to start an OS holy war. That shit is very circa 199x. It's old, played out, and it's beyond flame bait at this point.
It's more about this, for me.

ok fuckers. listen, i'm an expert at this, so pay attention...
an OS is only as good as it's applications. Period.
If all you do is browse the web, listen to music, check your email, and occasionally open some random document or video, GET A FUCKING MAC.
If all you do is tinker, and tinker, hack and crack, while actually not getting anything done, then *nix will keep you happy for a long long time. Linux as a daily desktop is overkill in the most retardededed ways.
If you have to run a server, or any kind, whether it's a webserver, game server, a home media server, go *nix. And guess what, MAC is built on *nix! Imagine that.
If you do a lot of media mixing, developing, music, videos, graphics, etc. Get a MAC.
If you play hardcore games, you have NO CHOICE, but run Windows... but fortunately for your Intel MAC folks, you can run Windows! Amazing.
But before all you nerds get your panties in a bunch, I want to make it clear. I hate computers. MAC, Windows, Linux, who cares. They are all PCs (no offence PC) and they all piss me off. I run Windows, because I have to have my games. Which is WHY I have a computer at all... AND Windows can do ALL OF THE ABOVE.
Use what you need or want.

@Roadblock. Vista doesn't play well with anything but Vista. But also know MAC uses Samba, which is a pain in the ass sometimes, but usually it works right out of the box. You've got to look at it in another way, instead of trying to "connect" the Vista machine to the MAC, go the other way and try to "connect" the MAC to the Vista machine. Once you're connected, it should be OK. Vista has been a PAIN IN THE ASS for me. Microsoft is trying to be more like Apple, in the sense they are starting to make people DO IT THEIR WAY, instead of what was once the charm of Windows, a zillion different ways to do the same thing.
Hope you figured it out.

where's PAM I need this statement authenticated. I thought MICROSHIT always tried to force their own standards. but at any rate yeah I tried both ways niether worked until I went into the hkey shit and changed a 3 to a 1. RIDICULOUS. but glad that google was there to provide the links to the hkey mod instructions.

wasn't trying to say YOU were Joe User, just putting in my 2 cents as to why Linux for the average user is a little much, even if free=more than just not having to pay for it (GNU does rule, as far as licenses go).
and yeah, OS flamebait is very 90s. Jus wanted to say my piece :P
Hope you got em working somehow, Roadblock. Fling a turd at Mr. Gates for me.
