Public Comment Workshop

In an effort to be an effective speaker during public comment at city hall we will be having comment workshops and working with people like Ubrayj, Damen (l.a. Streetsblog) and Stephen Box and whomever else we can get to help us all get our public speaking skillzz tuned up.
The where's and when's will be discussed here in the weeks ahead....
These workshops are not intended to tell us specifically what your comments should be, but rather to help us effectively convey what it is we want to say.
When there is a chance to coordinate our comments, it would be productive to do so so that we aren't repeating the same points to the city council. The more faces that they see at these meetings the better. That way they can't simply dismiss us as a "small group of dedicated cyclists" though it seems that is what it takes to get the ball rolling as they did in portland and san francisco.... believe in this process.... It can happen. It has happened in other big cities... it can happen here.
One thing I thought would help is to attend toastmasters meetings. I've never been to one but I've heard good fun things about it. There's one today at the center for inquiry on hollywood blvd. If anyone wants to join me. The meeting starts at 2pm. I'm gonna do it just for the fuck of it and see if I can get the "uhs" and "umms" out of my public comments!

The real surprise in this video is actually seeing Bernard Parks rise up and speak!
In addition to being anti-bike, Zuma Dog is an example of everything we should strive to NOT be when seeking social and political change.

And yeah, Mrs. R did Toastmasters for years at her work. Kinda hokey in some ways, but very helpful for public speaking.

I know I and everyone else takes these City Council meetings very seriously, but Zuma Dog is hilarious. I love it.

Funny thing about zuma is he is so loud and makes so much ruckus. I've read that politicians and politicos started feeding him on the downlow with dirt on their political enemies - stuff that would come out in his rants and would embarrass the targeted individuals. Hahah he's like the less successful younger brother of Matt Drudge of public commentors.
