Is it this weekend? Fuck. so early, feeling tired already... but, man... last year's Los Angelopes Marathon was FUCKING EPIC... 24+ hours of riding...

yeah its on memorial day this year. the last two years ive done it, its been in march or something. way earlier than may. riding from burbank, to usc, doing the marathon, doing the marathon again, and then ridinig back to burbank is going to be epic.

from the final instructions:
"Staff and security personnel will monitor access to the Bike Tour start area.
Riders without helmets or participant bibs will not be allowed in the starting area. Participants will not be able to enter ahead
of the start line; participants may begin lining up at 3:00 a.m. The Los Angeles Police Department Bike Patrol, National
Mountain Bike Patrol & California Emergency Mountain Patrol will lead the Bike Tour. THIS IS NOT A RACE. Your bib number must be on the front of your shirt so that it is clearly visible to the staff,
security, official photographers, and television cameras along the course. Riders without bibs will be removed from the tour."

they said that stuff last year and NO ONE was there to mess with people who didnt have bibs or helmets.
there are also no official photographers or television cameras out during the bike tour because no one gives a shit about it. all the news cares about is the actual running portion.
a guy who paid for the thing went down in front of some cops and was practically out cold (he was wearing his helmet backwards, if that says anything) and my friends dave and steve and i stopped to help him. the three of us had broken in and were helmet and bib-less. the cops were just like "oh, its a good thing you crashed here, theres a first aid tent across the street. walk over there and get help if you need it." they wouldnt even lift a finger to help this guy.

we rode it bandit last year. we started about a half hour after the official start of the bike tour, and entered about a half mile or so into the course from a quiet side street. i was nervous about the helmet/bib-less thing for about 5 or 6 miles before realizing that they had more important shit to worry about. it's not a race, and it might be the slowest group of cyclist one will ever encounter. srsly.
but why 3am start? why not 5.30 or 6? see the sun rise.

if you read the posting carefully you will see that we are riding it twice, once in a group with the streets blocked off by ourselves and once with the big group with everyone else.

It's pure mayhem barleye. You don't have to go through the trouble of making a bib. Just wear those hipster sunglasses you had on yesterday, and you'll be fine.

That was a weird course. Do many marathons end with an elevation gain? Had to be a heart breaker for the wheelchair doods and doodites to see the last half mile be a climb. Would have been better to run the course in reverse or figure some way to not end with a climb.
BTW I took the first train to the marathon from LB. There was no one on the train going to this cause it would have been too late for the bike portion. Sure would be nice to configure the public transportation system (lite rail) and have it showcased for the spectators as part of the marathon.

there was a good grip of people at 3am, maybe 50 or 60? we went the wrong way and did the course backwards, and right when we got back to the start we saw all the legit riders start leaving, so we jumped in again right away. hustled.
