The Everest Challenge is the hardest two day stage race on the USA Cycling calendar. Each day features three monumental climbs, with a total elevation gain of 29,035 feet in 206 miles. September 12-13
Anybody up for this? We have about 5 people so far that have this floating around in their heads, although its a monster of a ride. I'm going for the non-competitive section, because well, im not a mountain contender. We're only 16 weeks away and preparation starts in a few days.
Anybody interested?

With the pot you bring back, you could easily pay for the tix.

If you get a chance to talk to Steven P. Barnes tell him to call me.
He is my dad, and the new race director, as of this year, for the everest challenge. I guess Tom (race founder) got tired of all the BS with Inyo county, and last year decided to hand the race over to my dad. They kinda worked together on it last year, and this year is my dad's first go at it.
I am super excited to volunteer for this event (health permitting) and hope to see at least 1 rida at the finish line.

if he is your dad wouldn't it be easier to contact him rather than me finding him?
or are there greater domestic paternal issues at hand i shouldn't be digging into?

I can't find anything that states what the altitude is on the rides, or even a ride profile. Where is that crap at? The most important thing that you need to do is get acclimated to high climate, if it is up there.

I just have a hard time getting in hold of my dad since he changed his number and got seperated from my step-mom. No drama whatsoever, just thought it would be interesting if he got word through the grapevine, if you know what I mean.
I can probably get his number anytime from my grandma, that's not a huge issue though. He lives near big bear so it's not like I can just go and ride to his house on a whim.
Hell, I might look into voluntering for this year's everest challenge... maybe I can score some free shit out of it. It's only 2 days...... hmmm

This is an exceptionally hard race. You will probable quit. I’ve done it two years in a row now and can tell you that I wanted to quit for the last two hours both days. I mean that I thought about turning back just about every other pedal stroke. This said it is the best race I ever done. Very well put together. Lots of neutral aid stations. You all best start training. Climbing up Mt. Wilson one time per week is not enough. Last year I was doing at least one 100-110 mile ride with 8000-10,000’ of climbing every week in addition to another 150-200 miles. I did this for about five weeks and then tapered down the last two weeks before the race.

It is amazing. Anyone who loves to up hill on their bicycle should do this ride/race.
I'll be doing some rides to get ready so I'll hit you up.
