Just thought I'd share the fact that I had duo of dickbags in a large diesel truck try to run me off the road tonight. They sped past me, cut hard into the bike lane, slammed on their brakes, then pulled one of the most heinus u-turns I've ever seen in my life...then the next car passing by had a couple laughing at what just happened. Oh, and before all of this I had another car full of donkeys yell at me twice. I'm pretty used to bike harassment on a regular basis, but nothing like this. I dialed 911 and gave a description of the truck. I seriously feel like I had my threatened tonight, so I had to vent and that's why you are reading this.
I've actually started carrying around a key-chain laser to try and lure these guys into a U-Lock hammering.
At the very least, perhaps I'll burn the retinas of one of the shits who decides to turn their head.
As far as moving from the desert goes, I'm only intending on moving due to all the urban rejects moving up here to wreck everything, and the windy-ass weather that has been detrimental to my health for quite awhile.
That's why MR exists because it a place you can go and blow of steam about the dumbfucks who try infect us with their miserableness.
Just remember you still get to be you and enjoy life ... living through their assholishness for just few minutes. Those dickwads have to live in their miserable bodies for a lifetime.
With as dark as it gets up here, I've found my new laser-pointer to have been effective over the last week I've had it.
I wouldn't recommend it for getting back at road-run-offs, but it's definitely effective for dealing revenge on those eunuchs that like to scream, honk, or throw shit.
They see a dot pointing in there, they'll speed away frantically not knowing if I'm packing or not.
Then there's also the chance of hitting one, or more of the occupants in the retina!!!
Dude, the laser-pointer is a great idea. I might just have to follow your lead on that one...
I've tried to play vigilante for myself in the past but just end up wasting my energy. I've almost caught a couple of cars that fucked with me in the past, and that blew some minds. Most of the time it's just retarded kids who are so bored they just drive back and fourth across this sad town. I just shine them on.
But there are those times where this scenario comes to mind...
Sounds like there's assholes everywhere! What's fucked is in the desert they can get away easier. Here in the city they attention to traffic in front of them before they do something stupid.
Hey tiGRReagle, I'm working on putting together a trip to Burro Schmidt Tunnel. The plan is to ride 50 miles from Lancaster to Red Rocks Canyon and setup camp there. Then the next day ride 25 miles to Burro Schmidt Tunnel, and 25 miles back to camp. The following day would be a 50 mile ride back to Lancaster to catch the train back to LA. I'm thinking of doing it next year around the time flowers are blooming. You have any suggestions you would want to add? Can you pin point were the camping spot is in Red Rocks Canyon?
damn, sorry to hear that. asshole's are everywhere and karma will definitely get them.
i used to chase down cars, if i could. once i caught a car at a light and cracked one of his windows... it felt good. i had a really eye opening experience this weekend where a car was being a dick to a group of us. one of us put their hands on their hood and that set these psychos off. they took off ahead, parked their car, exited and got in the bike lane ready to do something. it was pandemonium 2009.
So I basically wrote you a very long winded and detailed response but wasn't logged on so I lost it all. So in short...
The ride should be fairly safe considering their are wide bike lanes the whole way. However you are still being passed by cars doing freeway speed so the sketch factor is still there for sure...The campsite at Red Rock is located a few hundred yards across the highway (southbound side) from the rest spot where you can hike around. I haven't been in a couple years but the rate then was $5/day per site. I got the vibe that it was more of a mellow spot, and some of the sites are kind of close together. As for Burro Schmidt, I've never even been all the way up there. Be prepared for a long hike on some dirt roads. But once your in the area, like around last Chance canyon you can set up camp anywhere you please and go ape shit.
As far as other suggestions none come to mind at the moment besides gettin' loose in the middle of nowhere and making some new friends! Since you are planning this for next year hopefully I can round up a group to come meet up with you guys. Hope this was helpful...
Unfortunately I know exactly what you mean. It has happened to just about everyone, including the site owner! I just remember to select all and copy before I hit the post reply button now.
Thanks for the info. Yeah we'll stay off the 14 for alot of the way. For example we can take Sierra Hwy instead of the 14 out of Lancaster. Getting together sounds cool. Maybe do something the first night in camp? You guys can bring the firewood if you're driving.
One thing I was looking at was on the second day possibly going from Red Rock Canyon State Park to Last Chance Canyon Road to get to Burro Schmidt. Satellite images give the impression there's a trail that connects these two roads together. If they do connect, that could knock off a few miles for the second day. I need to get this shortcut resolved.
@indigis, I'll be posting this ride up when it's planned.
This trip isn't planned till next spring.

When I'm back driving trucks again in the near future, relay all their info to me.
This way, they'll get a little taste of vacuum-vortex from a loaded down, 53'!!!!
