Seven competitors from yesterday cyclist race were severely injured after being hit by a drunk driver, one of them died and other three were hospitalized. The drunk driver was arrested after the rest of the participants tried to lynch him.
I'd put him in cuffs then walk away for 1 min. Let the crowd or those around deal with him. The pain he inflicted on the family of the guy he killed can't even come close to being matched in 1 minute, but I'd let them start the grieving on the spot. This guy must have been plastered to be do something so stupid when it's clearly light out and right in front of a cop.....just sad.
The photos on this are very disturbing. My condolences go out to the family of the killed cyclist.
I'm a little confused as to how they handle their escorting in Mexico. Obviously we don't have the full story, but it seems the escorting cop should be at the front of the pack, yes?
escorting from behind so they dont get hit from behind. obviously the federales never thought someone would cross x amount of lanes of traffic to hit them head on.

Yeah, and now it makes more sense about why the Federale swerved to the other side of the road in the horrific picture. He was behind them and swerved to both avoid the car and the riders going down. I have a feeling if he was in front he would have tried something other than leaving the racers vulnerable to the driver.
If that isn't labeled as ignorant, then I don't know what is.
The guy was clearly drunk and should've been hauled off to a holding tank by the DUI patrols that commonly wait outside the bars.
But, this being Mexico, the local PD were more than likely light on those type of calls and could care less.
That's why I think these should be mounted on the handlebars when riding through a sketchy area known for poor driving and drunkards.
Put a nice, good hole through the engine block and make the drivers pants dirty for a few, weeks.
