Anybody been to this cave? Looks like a nice little ride. It's about 13 miles from North Hollywood station.
More info found
here and
here. Map to it

There sure are alot of interesting, "Goonie-ish" spots around the LA Basin, all within riding distance as well.

Oh geez, I didn't realize that map looked that bad. Here's one that shows elevation. It's less than a 800 foot climb. That's like going up like 8 platforms on a parking structure. A peice of cake!

lol what parking structure is 100 feet tall???
try again.
800ft is a generous climb. especially uninterrupted.

just mapped it out, it's a 3 mile climb with a steadily increasing grade- tops out at 7%, but it's 3% or 4% until the last half mile or so, about 500 ft of climbing if I'm reading this thing right. It seems pretty much exactly comparable to Sepulveda on the same side of the hill. Hard, but do-able climb. I'm down, as long as it's not another early morning thing. I also slept through the last one.

no beverly glen is definitely a tougher climb than sepulveda. its shorter but covers nearly the same elevation.

I think this would be an awesome night time ride. It's going to be one that I've got to do some daytime scouting on.
To be continued................

Are we talking about the same side of the hill here? Because I climbed Beverly Glen on a 52/16 waaaay back when I was running such a ridiculous gear, and I couldn't do Sepulveda on that bike. Also, Beverly Glen has like 7 billion switchbacks, so the climb's pretty gentle.

Caves + night = WIN.
I think I'd be down for scouting as well, now that my chain isn't squeaking like mad every time I put a bit of torque on it...

sepulveda climbs 466 feet in 2.1 miles with a 4.2% avg grade

...damn. You win.
Why was I ever scared of Sepulveda, again?
Also, scouting this soon means I'll be in PDX when this happens. :(
Hopefully I'll be back in time for the actual ride.
... omg brainflash! How awesome would this be as a full moon ride??

I'm gona do the scouting ride this Sunday. So if anyone wants to join me, meet up at the North Hollywood train station at 11:30 and roll at noon. We'll take the route posted above. 13 miles one way and 800 ft of elevation gain.
We'll be back in time to watch the Lakers win the superbowl. Just got to find a cool place to watch the game. Which btw starts at 5pm.

San Fernando Valley high schoolers call this cave the "'shroom room." Nearly every square inch of its soft surface has been carved with heavy metal druggie hieroglyphics. In the daytime, when I visit it with my family, it seems spooky and ghost-inhabited. At night, the teenagers take over.

It was a cool cave and wasn't that hard to get to. The last 1/4 mile was steep, but that was it. Didn't seem like 800' gain. There was some poison oak in the area, so it would be great to do a drunken free for all out there. If the poison oak don't get ya, the first 1/4 mile going back would!
