Yeah, I read the article.
35 years ago, hitch hiking was common around here, now its so rare that seeing a hitch hiker is sirprizing.
Too bad. I made some memorable trips to Tahoe, Arazona and just around town. I also made life long friends of some of the folks who picked me up.
Let's bring back hitch hiking!

I remember one time shortly after high school. My friend and I was partying at his girlfriend's house. He drove and decided to spend the night there. I was about 20-25 miles from home at 3am in Sacramento. I got three different rides home hitchhiking. I got rides fast, one after another! I got home almost as fast as if I was driving. It would take me three days to do it today.

I got picked up once going to griffith park. Cool people, a little awkward though.

This is what I hate about Americans though, we are too private and think everything is ours.

That idea of hitchhiking stations is pretty good, a little big brothery but good trade off.

where is my towel.

I once got a ride from a stranger in Toluca Lake... but now our hitchhiking has turned into rideshare on CL.

I slugged occasionally when I lived in Northern Virginia. It would save you, on average, about half the commute time. Ridiculous to think people don't do that more often here.

However, in the Norther Virginia area, there are separate HOV hiways, that you can only access if you have three or more people in the car.
