My wife showed me this interesting project / study that M.I.T. is doing which collects data from cell phones, buses and taxis in Rome to better understand urban dynamics in real time. - "The project aims to show how technology can help individuals make more informed decisions about their environment. In the long run, will it be possible to reduce the inefficiencies of present day urban systems and open the way to a more sustainable urban future?"

I heard on the radio that Google is developing a technology that works with cellphones locations to help improve the functionality of Google maps. Does anyone think that we could implement this technology like they are doing in Rome to show the population where we really stand transportation-wise and start thinking about bicycles more?

there is the nefarious aspect that in order to do this, you have to open your cell phone to allow you to track where you are in real time.
I feel it is somewhat scary enough that they know when you made a call, from what area and to who, and where that person is when you called then. This will be able to say where Joe Borfo is right now. Will it be good on a tuesday night, when TW is looking for drunk and lost Joe, sure will be. Remember the history that happens all over the world under the influence of our very own USA. If you don't fit into the plan, you could dis-appeared. Sure, the new plan is completely different in how everybody is pretty much in one forum or another voluntarily a finical slave, or if you don't have money you are marginalized anyway. Beyond that if you are effective and not a slave, you can be made to look a fool.

With all that being said, I voluntarily, have my Dad being able to be constantly tracked, if he decides to wonder off. With my cell phone navigator I'm can be found where I'm out as long as the locater is enabled. For convenes sake I have it on ALLOWED constantly. So in essence, I voluntarily allow myself to be tracked.
