All of those threats were empty, Jeff. Actually, in my minds eye, I fashion myself as an astute practitioner of the ancient secrets of mixed martial arts cage fighting. So, if you aren't a kick mixed martial arts champion, then you have no reason to be alarmed. You've been on more rides than the rest of us. Now, maybe you should be filing some files, file clerk. Congrats Tern. You deserve it. Tern is a pioneer when it comes to Ridazz in the Pomona Valley. Aside from the rides he started mentioned aboved, he and Fuzzbeast also started the East Endz ride by the Claremont Colleges a couple of years ago. While the ride itself lasted only a few months, it introduced several people to the Ridazz 'scene'.

Man, the depressing stuff...I have to go out and finish building a house that is in the middle of being built. May dad fell off of the roof of this house, and now he needs my help, because he broke some bones(this help I am happy and ready to give, by the way). I will miss all of you and the soon to be rambunctious antics of summer. At the current plan, I should be leaving in the beginning of June. But, I'll be back in the fall. I'll just have to find a place and start all over again.

Hey Coach...thanks again for helping me get the Dark Century Started! There are a couple of people who have volunteered to keep it going while I'm gone...they could plan and host a couple of Dark Centuries. UP until now....I have an approximate count of 43 people riding their first century on this ride. I'm glad it's gonna keep going.

East Sidazz was mostly Fuzzbeast. I just went to the rides...and flyered...and I made the spoke cards...with his artwork....and a helped to scout a ride...(or two?) East Sidazz is his thing...and it totally helped me to meet people and have fun out in our neck of the woods.

No....I went there a few times...before rides. The name of the place is Joy Mart. I don't know the address. One time, I went there before riding with tren way in china town. I was early and I had nothing to do, so I rode down to little tokyo and drank some sapporo...I sat outside and drank a big pitcher while talking to some people I met who were showing a friend around from Australia. Than I rode over to china town and found tren way people--and drank more beer.

The first time I rode fixed was in Arcata, CA (not Arcadia) in 1998. The bike was a white 80's Schwinn track bike with pink lettering. I fell of of it after riding about a hundred yards. Then, when I moved down to LA, I lived with a guy who is a masters track rider. He rides (rode?) at Encino. I was able to borrow that bike every so often, and that's when I started really having fun riding on track bikes. The bike was a Cannondale with sew ups....about 2 cm to big for me. Then, after I had moved out of that place, I met a guy who lived in my apartment building who had an identical frame, but with clinchers and cheaper track specific components. I got to ride that bike quite a bit. It was fun. But, I never owned a fixed gear. And, I have never ridden a conversion for mare than a mile or two.
So, I never really went back to road bikes....I never actually owned a fixed gear.
What was the first bike you ever rode?
The first bike I ever rode was a bmx bike...in 1980. I was too little to reach the pedals, but somehow I managed to lean from one side to the other and make contact with one foot, while the other was dangling in the air. I remember that it hurt my nuts.
What was the first bike you ever owned (if it wasn't the same bike as above), did your parents buy it for you? For what occassion?
My first bike was a metallic purple Sears bike. It was a knockoff on a Schwinn Stingray...but a little bigger, I think. I got it for my birthday, a couple of weeks after riding the bmx bike that the kid, Donald, across the street owned. I had been disallowed to hang out with him because he tought me some cuss words, and my mom found a KISS 45 and a Disco Duck 45 that he had given me to play on my Disney record player.
What was the first bike you bought with your own money?
The first bike I bough with my own money was a 1988 Fuji Ace road bike. I rode that thing all over the place. But, skating took over full time not long after that. Later on, I bought and Ibis modified trials bike. I spent a bunch of time hopping around on that. Damn, you could run faster that bike would go. Well, when I moved out of my parent's house....in like 1994...both of those bikes were stolen from the house I lived in by some notorioulsly drug addicted members of a still remembered underground band who had started couch surfing. I moved the fuck out of there soon after they started squatting. Since then, I've had a bunch of bikes. I started out rebuilding old bikes...and putting huge baskets on them...to make them as useful as I could...I rarely drove for years. Then, my (once) girlfriend bought me a used bianchi road bike from our neighbor for Christmas. It's been all about road bikes since then.

So fun riding with you...sorry I couldn't make it up my my west side friendsd and join in the journey to your house.

Tern is awesome! Thanks to him I rode my first Metric Century (plus a bit more).
BTW, Joy Mart is a big fave and frequent hang-out of the IAAL-MAF. Did you drink the beer straight out of the pitcher or did they give you one of those 32 oz. mugs that are like a mini-pitcher?

Hey rollers....for some reason....the gave me a really tiny glass, every time....like an 8 oz. glass. Somehow, I really like the huge pitcher / small glass combo. Maybe I felt like I was drinking my share, PLUS!

Danny, I have been waiting to a special edition double century, as a part of the Dark Century, but I had some very well reasoned explanations as to why I shouldn't have done it when I was planning. But, it's alll open for the future. Maybe this winter--you and and and Leslie could do this?

I meant, you and me and Leslie could do this...and anyone else who wants to plan the Double--related to the Dark Century. It wold be really epic. Others will be doing the same thing this month (unorganized double, even though they have guidelines from the randoneuirs authorities. Swarm has some people doing a looooong ride, like 235 this month.) But, I think we should start looking at the possibility of doing a separate 200 mile ride, unsupported. We won't be the first among our friends, but we will add to the Dark Century....It has to have another name and life, though.
The Dark Century is focused on two things.....giving experienced riders a century at night, and giving first time century riders a chance to do their first century....at night!!

I think everything is going pretty well, right now. Maybe I should put forth he initiative that I should have a place to sleep after every ride...because riding home takes around 2 hours and riding the bus takes about an hour and a half.

I live here because the rent is cheap, and I have a back yard to plant plants.I have plants to plant. Would you like some fresh yellow squash? Sometimes it gets hot between May and October.

You've got it, Kyber. I have about 12 growing on two plants...and more to come. In 2 to 3 weeks (before I leave) they'll be grown. There you go.
Also, I already have tiny green tomatoes on my tomato plants, but they won't be big and red until I"m on the east coast. Too bad.

Well, all I got to say is that you(tern) seem to be compatible with any magnitude and number of rides.
Whether they're fast, slow, hilly, flat, soupy, cold, hot, or all of the above, you seem to hold your own.
So, as for So.Carolina, you originally from there, or you just got family that moved/lived out there?

Hey, Bentstrider....good to hear form you. My mom is from South Carolina, and my dad is from all over the place. He was the first kid in my grandparent's family, and my grandfather was in the navy. SO, my dad lived in so many places before he was in his junior year in high school. At that point, my grandparents settled in Charleston, South Carolina. And, he went to Clemson and met my mom on a blind date. They got married just after graduation. Then, he was comisioned in the Air Force....and they started moving around. I was born in Anchorage, Alaska. And when I was really young, my family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I grew up there until I was 15. Then my dad retired from the military / think tank stuff in New Mexico and went to work in Pico Rivera. We moved to Chino Hills (it was Chino, at that Point) and I finished up highschool there. Then, when I was old enough, I moved to Pomona, then Korea Town, then Claremont, then Laverne. Then I went to college in Arcata (in Humboldt County....have you seen the Ewok forest...that's where I lived, pretty much). When I greduated, I was a radio news dude in Eureka for a while, and I wrote for the papers. Then, I moved down to Sacramento for two years. And then I moved to LA. I lived between LA Brea and Fairfax--south of the 10 for a good while. Then I lived in Fullerton for two years. And then I lived in Claremont again. Now I live where I live in Covina. Let's see where I land next, after helping my parents to finish there house in South Carolina. I'm thinking I'll move in with PC in San Pedro....and make him my bitch (hahaha, whoops just kidding, PC). Who knows, man. I'm sure you can appreciate my life of moving around, since you're a long hauler.

Drew encouraged me to ride my first century and flung the sweat from his helmet on me as a token of gratitude. I think I first met him during the first dark century scouting ride. We met on sunset and fairfax, and I almost got squished by a bus. I think he mentioned something about liking my boat shoes, and that convinced me that he had good taste and was trustworthy enough to do a century with.
