I was just cleaning out my closet and couldn't believe how many articles of clothes I have from the Banana Republic.
Now don't be shy. Step up and admit if you have any Banana Republic clothing.

I have some BR boxers and some shirts I haven't worn in a long time. My favorite sweater to ride in before it got eaten up by my cog had a BR label on it.
To me BR is what people are supposed to wear on casual Fridays. With women's stuff they are all about knocking off what was in a season ago.
To me this film thing they sponsored is fairly innocuous. It's not like the PETA campaign that's loaded with body issues or the stupid "walking tickets" handed out by ZipCar.

it's sad to think about but a majorty of all [clothing] companies have sweatshops/have people working in terrible conditions and for what we consider next to nothing wages... even materials that are manufactured in the United States.

no no i know this.. i am just saying to the person who posted this thread that you have to relaize that everything isn't peachy in this world
heck we send half our factories over seas because they dont have emission caps on how much toxins can be released or dont have to worry about the "unions" and "safe" working conditions

i admit, i've tried shopping there, but their clothes fit me funny.
its like every time i try on a shirt, there's always a ton of excess slack in my armpit region...it's like i have to have the build of the macho man randy savage to wear their stuff.
sciencefriction08.19.09 - 9:59 am

oh, got it.
yeah, what's the point of having labor and emission laws on u.s. companies who operate in the united states when we can buy from companies in other countries or manufacture products in other countries sans regulation???
basically what this means is that all of the protections we have put into place are just hurting us by moving all business outside of the united states.
that's why we have to educate ourselves about the companies and buy from the ones that follow our principles. this is why i support tom bihn.
unfortunately, there are not that many companies like tom bihn.

Snowcone and Brittny
Maybe you can and maybe you can't realize how flippent that comment is. "Why Aren't they all dead" Maybe you don't exactly understand what a "living wage" means?
Not just in third world countries but in the Untied States you have people that don't make enough money to fully fund three full meals, shelter, clothing, utilities, transportation, etc.
Case in point. In the US, you have what you call the working poor homeless. People who maintain employment yet don't have enough money to cover a rent.
In Vietnam, the cost of a meal is 60-90 cents, so the daily wage of $1.60 is not enough for three meals in the urban city of Ho Chi Minh (where Nike factories are located), let alone enough for transportation or shelter. The Indonesian government admits minimum wage is only %90 of subsistence needs for one person. U.S. companies like Coca-Cola and Goodyear recognize minimum wage is not enough.
Those three examples (which there are many more) show that yes you can still live while working for a less then living wage, but not have enough for a basic standard of living (not extreme wealthy western living)

i wrote this long response but i lost it... let me summarize it, you will probably prefer the summary anyway.
if living wage includes three full meals, shelter, clothing, utilities, transportation, etc... then they are deciding what a person needs to live much higher than what is actually necessary. some people live a happy life with much less. if a person is happy, s/he is rich in my eyes.

I've got a nice black jacket from BR my ex got me a year and a half ago. Selling for $80 or trading for random shit like bento boxes, xbox games, and/or a contract stating that you will clean my apartment twice in a weeks period. It fits somewhat small and I've grown too big to wear it.

My entire wardrobe is either Banana Repulix or GAP. See when I was young, I was a mid level fashion model. I can wear the fuck out of some khakis but styles change and they don't want the metrosexual look anymore. They want those cool kids that ride bikes, get high and drink too much. Fuck now I can not afford my $1,000 a day heroin habit. WTF people. Stop making these cool videos with hipsters and Latixters (latino hipsters) and shit. Fuck I wish that Kuang lee would hire me again.......
