I’m kidding, obviously. My point stands with everyone else in the
Wetback Wednesdays thread that it’s an offensive ride name and a word that’s not ready yet to be reappropriated by anyone.

I was just surprised by the audacity, poodles.
Let's not resort to telling people what to do. Let them figure it out for themselves.

Maybe the pople organizing this ride don't give a fuck what that word means.
Maybe they are proud to be illegal and don't see any stigma in it.
Maybe wetback isnt a bad word to them, maybe it's just something they all have in common and they want to congregate.
Wait and see what this ride does and how they run it and maybe you'll change your mind.
I have no authority to speak for the ride or its intentions I just think its silly to pass judgement until the ride actually happens.

I agree! I think The Minutemen is a great bike gang name.

+1 to stilline.
There is a long history of oppressed people co-opting (and arguably disempowering) the slurs that would be used to degrade them.
The most obvious example is ACT UP co-opting the the word Queer ... okok maybe thats the 2nd most obvious example ... especially if you are a fan of hip hop.

Double Nickel on the Dime was a great album. This is turning into a much cooler thread now.

@trickmilla
it's funny to see all these white people (including myself) dancing around "the word." however there is a debate as to whether the use of the word by black people is actually a form of self-abasement. there's a great book by randall kennedy on the subject for those of you who would like to learn more...
