I must admit I am quite fond of the fellow.
That is a bummer how that happened. Super super lame.
We need to be there for him should he need witnesses or something.
What happened to his bike?

We were comign back from barchopz enroute to the red line.. we were going fast and havign fun biking over to the metro when a cop out of nowhere stands in the middle of the left and right lanes (acting as a barrier) startd screaming for us to slow down.. so we did.. justin moved to thr right of the lane and the cop PUSHES/ attempts to force justin off his bike causing justin to skid and almost slam into the curb... so we keep on going because the officer walks away.. we go single file.. next thing we know the cop is following us.. he makes a right turn.. and thats all i know... Larsen, Vlad, Richie and Alec stayed behind.. they told us to catch the train..
Justin texted me this morning.

I am not sure because it happened so fast, but we were riding down Burbank to Lankershim to hit up the last Red Line train back. Street was empty so we were having a good time racing along, when suddenly a police is walking across the street (They seemed to be in the middle of arresting some people). I am not sure what the exchange was (I think I heard the cop yelling to "Sow down"), but the cop tried to push Justin off his bike. Justin almost fell, regained balance, and we continued to ride. Justin made a right and a cop car went speeding after him.
We stopped. There was a lot of confusion about what to do next, where he went, should we try to catch the train, etc.
Last I heard he went down to the station for a blood alcohol test.
I don't know why the cop was in the middle of the street. I don't know what Justin might have done to incite a possible arrest other than we were riding in both lanes. The push seemed really uncalled for.
I am sure the details will trickle in.

The reason the officer walked out in to the street was because our group were playing on bikes weaving all around and playing 'TAG'. When he told Justin to Stop, he veered around him. Yes, there was physical contact from the cop trying to stop him. This coupled with having alcohol in his system made it look like he wasn't able to ride a bike.
They told us that we HAVE to stay to the right.
The 2nd squad car that showed up had cool cops in it. He went into the trunk for something and pulled out a bag of weed and said "Weed anyone?", with a big smile on his face haha.
<3 JUSTIN!!

Hey thanks for clarifying and thanks for hanging back with him.
What I don't get is why the cop was in the street to begin with? Was it cause they saw us from a distance?
That's a bummer. Guess we got carried away. An empty street is still a street. It had been fun. How often do you get to play like that? I also wonder if there could have been a better way for the cop to get us to behave.
As the eldest kid in my family, I always feel responsible for everything. This included.
I'm willing to help out however necessary.
Oh and: "The 2nd squad car that showed up had cool cops in it. He went into the trunk for something and pulled out a bag of weed and said "Weed anyone?", with a big smile on his face haha."

yea that makes sense as to why the cop was in the middle of the intersection. i guess we forget that even though its an empty street we still need to be cautious and follow the rules of the road.
thank you again richie and larsen for hanging back!

the cop was in the middle of giving a ticket to another biker. He saw us coming and saw the swerving which is why he went into the street.

JUSTIN REPORTING HERE..
Lemme lay it down for you guys... I am on my way home riding, rushing to catch the redline. I, nor my body, was not ready. Irreguardless i was legally in the street emerging left to go around our crowd. Suddenly out of nowhere a man in black with short leaves hops in front of my bike and yells "STOP RIGHT NOW". Naturally, i start banking right to avoid this, seemingly, crazy man. He lunges at me and tries to push me off a moving vehicle. I continue in the crowd trying to gather my barrings.. Like WTF just happened?? Larsen Yells "right turn". Still dazed, lean right. To the officer, this seems like an evasion technique. I notice there is an squad car to my right now. I promptly stop get off my bike and give them full 100% cooperation. Tell them exactly what happened and that i have been drinking and we were all trying to make the last train home. (that redline sucks fuck balls, 12:41 cut off pshhhhshh ... mothers curfew all over again.. anyways..) SO they take me to the station and breathalize me proving only what i said to be true.. I was .1 if you were wondering.. Then the do the whole nine yards on me. Mugshot. Stripp down. question everything questionable. THey Make me sleep in a cell. then wake me up for fingerprints.. i got 'booked' then soon booked out of there at 4 am. Bikeless, Sensless, Still buzzed, in the middle of dead nowhere feeling violated.
The charges where:
A bicycle DUI
And 'Obstructing an Officer' (keeping him from doing his job)

Sorry to hear this. You may have a chance of fighting the breathalyser test. There was a case that just came up, you can track it down in LATimes, they did an article on it. What happened in the case was that they challenged that the reading was an estimation. And since it was an estimation, it could be seen as having flawed results.
So both times you blew .10? And also your bike is gone?

So sorry to hear this Justin. We lost the pack after the last bar and were heading home when some boys in blue thought it'd be nice to bug us as well. Luckily it was uneventful but we could have easily been in a similar predicament. Next time stay on the bike path... it's a million times safer.
