last night on the midnight social bike ride...

we were riding up silverlake blvd and stopped at the 7-11 at effie st. about 7 to 10 people came in and went to the beer section and began choosing what to buy. at this point, a store clerk came out from the back and announced that they don't sell alcohol to bicyclists anymore. his explanation for this was that the night before, (wednesday night) a group of bicyclists came in (he referred to them as "you guys came in", showing he thinks we must've been the same group or something) and everyone stole beer. i of course was curious as to how he thought not letting us buy alcohol would DECREASE theft.... but to my main point. my guess is that k-town wednesdays must've been the group who did this. they give us ALL a bad name and end up taking away our rights to buy our favorite beverage from a store. is it only a matter of time before all clerks think that we are out just to cause trouble and steal their things? we came in with good intentions, and, just like african americans before the civil rights movement, we were turned away because of a generalized, untrue idea about us. something NEEDS to be done about ktown wednesdays because they are ruining the fun for others. any ideas? thoughts? opinions?

they're allowed to refuse anyone they wish. if they give you shit, just move on. not a big deal, and really not worth fussing and bitching over.
buy your beer when you go grocery shopping
put it in your bag when you go out for a ride. cheaper too i bet.

also interesting to note: we decided to not give 7-11 our business and go to another liquor store instead (silversun liquor on sunset/silverlake). about ten people were in line with their goods when we start to notice the clerk getting very pissed off for some reason. apparently the first 2 people in line with our group joked about something that had to do with being underage (which they werent) and one may or may not have used an fake indian accent. the clerk said "you dont know what i fucking go through everyday!! fuck you and your bullshit!" and other things like this. the rider who accidentally got him angry went back late to try and apologize and let him know no harm was meant. at this, the cerk flipped out EVEN MORE, and wouldn't listen to what the rider was trying to say. he being %100 apologetic and yet every word he said made the clerk more angry. finally this rider left the store and went into the store to apologize for anything anybody said to offend him and to wish him a good day. after i said those things to him he started yelling at the top of lungs for me to.... "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY STORE!!!! FUCK YOU!!!! GET THE FUCK OUT". he spent the rest of our time standing in the parking lot waving his middle finger at us from the cash register counter.
why do clerks hate us so much?

Why they hate us so much? Cause he views all the ridazz as thieves. Switch to wine and fill up before you leave home. I've been doing this all summer and most of the time I even come home with a little wine left over. Sure is cheaper too!

I know the owner at SilverSun. Hes crazy and he don't take no shit from punk kids.
He also likes it whe you put your dog on the counter. He alwyas used to make me put my roomates boston terrier on the counter, then he tells you a 5min story about how his dog died when he was a kid.
The guy at 7-11 on silverlake kicked us out on Chynnas ride too. Hes just in a real bad mood all the time.
Forget it

This happened to this ride last Thursday too. The guy at a sunset blvd liquor store was real hesitant to selling us beer there too. It's not really that isolated of an incident.

i know who or what the guy looked like that messed up your brew stop on the 7-11, i was there that night, fucked the whole group up and they called the cops too.
guy had a bald head, hispanic, maybe about 5'10 ish, with a Fuji 3.0 blue/white bike not sure.
he stole 2 40's as he walked out of the store, he dropped 1 of them, then the 2nd co-worker came out to take a look and the guy at the counter handed the phone over to the 2nd guy, called the cops and everyone scurried away... down the hill past 7-11 we saw the cops, but they didnt stop us.

i think it's safe to say that rides shouldnt have liquor stops anymore.
a few TNS's ago, some candy raver kid wearing a plaid shirt with cut off sleeves who was new to the ride tried to jack shit even though we all made an annoucement that we will kick the shit out of anybody caught stealing.
he went inside and came back out stating that he couldnt steal shit bc there wasn't enough people inside.
this is getting so out of hand.

By the way- while we're on the topic of liquor stores, there is another side to this equation:
Did you know that there are 2 unofficially "sponsored" ridazz liquor stores west of the 405? The owners fucking love us.
When random people come in the store asking "What the hell are all the bikers are doing everywhere?" you hear the clerk say to them "Relax, these are good people".
Oh yeah forgot to mention, they are both located in Santa Monica!

I don't recall starting anything like this...except for i changed up RWNN to 1 market / 1 park a few months ago...The one stop was for mostly for woman to use the bathrooms and for people to hydrate themselves........
A bunch of 2nd Friday rides have had no liquor stops for a long time now....it's nothing new per se....just happens sporadically. I bring water with me on all rides. I know of a ton of folks that bring cases of beer in their bags so it's not really a problem....

Man I know right, the West side is like totally devoid of drama now that Alex Thompson is in remission. You know what that means right?! P--A--RTY--T-I-M-E!!!
Seriously though, I've been wondering where all the usual West side drama is- haven't been missing it though.
See you guys tonight at RWNN?

my mistake.
i thought you were pretty stern about the no liquor stop thing, or at least have a stop that's near one and not at one.
regardless, i think when people start bringing booze from home, it keeps them more in check and keeps out the idiots that need liquor stops so they can jack shit.

speaking of LACM and cross posting, how about a bit of support on the trying to have people's ride organizer(s) move peoples ride to first fridays instead of last fridays. don't post here...post on the other thread.

the ralph's we went to on the last rwnn loved us. even the security guard was having a good time.
i'm a fan of the stops at a park/lot/whatever with a store somewhere nearby. it ends up with small groups going when they need something and coming back to the stop, rather than 200 people hanging around the parking lot of the store for an hour and a huge line at the register.

When I'm on a ride and need to make a 2-minute re-supply, I ride up near the front and keep my eye open for a gas-station/Quikie Mart that has no signs of a soup-line.
Swoop in, grab shit, make purchase then bone out while the ridazz train is still passing through.

what i'm worried about though is not as much the effects we'll get in stores, as the effect we'll get on the street with police. if the police start generalizing all bikers with the k-town ride, what will happen then?

You can't do much about broadly applied stereotypes. Just mind the company you keep, be excellent to each other and give store clerks (and everyone else) a reason to stick up for the broadly generalized group called cyclists.

you guys are still rambling about kushtown?
Whoever has gone to the kushtown ride should know quite well what our intentions are: Good route. Chill spot to kick it. Even better route to get back.
People steal in every fucking ride. Shit happens.
Since when is a ride responsible for what people do. People are responsible for themselves. Like I've said in former threads, I nor any of the organizers are there to babysit. If someone fucks up, that's their shit.
Anyone who has been to the ride knows that we are good people. We're all about riding and having a good time hanging out and meeting new people. Yeah we like to smoke and drink. Who doesn't? I'm sure that goes for more than 50% of all the people that attend rides.
You wanna talk to shit, go ahead. Blame Kush-Town. Blame it for everything that goes wrong with your life. Cause it was probably our fault :)

So SUPERMAN..
Before you open up that mouth of yours and talk shit about KUSHTOWN and stereotype us as a bunch of theives. Make sure you really know what you're doing and talking about, before you get us all into trouble.
I bet you got all your information about KUSHTOWN through the forums. Which are bias against the ride. Experience the ride for yourself. I invite you to next week's ride. I promise you won't be disapppointed. We're good people.... :)

I'll accept your offer. i dont have anything against you, and i'm sure you have good intentions. it sucks that your ride draws that kind of a crowd. i'm a HUGE pothead, i drink plenty. there's nothing wrong with that. i just wish the people who do shit like stealing wouldn't ride with MR rides. just as i've been stereotyped by clerks as a "beer-stealing bicyclist" because of the bad seeds, your ride has been given a bad name and stereotyped because of these people. it's not your job to babysit at all, but if you include these people in your ride, you also bring a bad image upon yourself.
but, i'll admit it. i dont know all that i can about kush town. i'll come out and smoke you guys out. i'll ride with you and kick it and hopefully i wont get categorized into the part of your group that steals and does other unnecessary shit. i hope i have fun =]

Thank you! You won't be disappointed..
I also wish that the people who steal shit would not affiliate themselves with MR or any ride. But unfortunately some do and since the website is open to all, it's somewhat difficult to control who goes and who doesn't. The only way to know what's going to happen at a ride, is by actually riding. We've been trying real hard to keep our ride under control...and for the most part, have succeeded. The usual riders that attend our ride know riding etiguette, and know how to act. For example the young guy who was caught stealing at 7-11, I had never before seen him at our ride. He probably was used to doing shit like that...and after that incident, I'm sure - or at least I hope - he learned his lesson and won't screw it up for the rest of the group next time. (He was probably embarassed since all eyes were on him).
I completely understand that our image has been tainted and for what reasons, but slowly and surely we will clean it and make sure it's nice, and attractive for all the bikers in the city to indulge in its essence. Looking forward to seeing you there next wednesday.
