I miss CRANK MOB

I MISS people yelling inside jokes at strangers. Now we have a mass yelling “on your left”. I MISS costumes from the heart not the store (or none!). I MISS the childlike feeling of “can we get away with this much fun?” instead if a macho “I do what I want!” (sorry to use that phrase it just fit). I MISS people getting messy, instead of parking lots. I MISS trading bikes throughout the night instead of people stealing them. I MISS burning money instead of cigarettes. I MISS catching someone’s eye and knowing they are thinking this is the best night of their life. Instead of seeing their eyes and wondering if they will remember this night. I MISS people doing instead of shooting (pictures, what where you thinking?).
The next couple months I’m going to say thank you to people who dance, pLAy, wink, cuddle, give, dress-up, get messy and be children.

We'll just have to weather this storm as best as we're able to.
I propose cryptic contact between all of us in the know.
Those that give half-a-shit will follow suit with the right people and be one with the usual flow of things.
The Uber-renegades will find themselves riding down a dark-alley and in the center of a random, shopping center chowing down on samples.
It's all about incentives to stay with the pack.

I agree with Alec. My first crank mob was so much better compared to recent crank mobs I've been on. They are still fun but some of the people that made it great have stopped attending and the spirit they brought to it is sorely missed.

Ha ha, the more, the merrier.
One could think of CRANK Mob as a gigantic, 3 mile long, playlist where you simply skim through the ride to find that perfect track!!!

The crankmob before last, when a number of people put a lot of effort into spreading the SAFEMOB vibe far and wide and letting people know the crankmobments and how fun and common sense are not mutually exclusive, was probably THE BEST ride I've been on in months, and as far as I know, everybody made it home safe.
Then last month it was warm and everybody heard how much fun the previous ride was, and nobody spread the word about safety and common sense and the crankmobments, and so there were injuries and fights and shoplifting (along with an AWESOME ride for the 99% of people that didn't get injured or act like jackasses).
So, we probably all need to contribute to the safemob efforts, and help everyone understand that this ride is fundamentally about riding your bikes and having fun, and doing so in a way that we all get to keep doing it, which means showing a basic level of common courtesy and respect for our fellow ridazz and the places we visit.
It's not difficult, it's just that we all need to do it EVERY time, rather than hoping things will carry over from the previous month.

The more i think about the ride and how to get it to be like it used to be, the more i realize that i'm neglecting what it CAN be. Lets take advantage of this 600 people every month and have some fun with that!

CRANK MOB used to be the only ride that made me nervous. it was performance, improv. Danger was always a possibility and I liked it that way. I miss being able to get yall POOPY. 5%ers ftw.

I'm going to jump on this banwagon.
I miss the old Crank Mob. My first one was AMAZING! Costumes up the WHAT WHAT? The butt. Maybe if you dont bring a costume no spokecard? Whaaaa?
That feeling that you get when riding ridiculously dressed up and people dont know what the fuck your doing and try to make you feel uncomfortable and when you finally reach the mob and you feel at home...Is priceless to me.

I miss Crank Mob #1.
I miss the fact that there were 40-50 of us, all having a good time. Stopping because of flats, and turning into jumproping. Our stops weren't as long. Our riding was fun and adventurous, and there was always the aspect of danger. Hitting big hills.
We can't do it with the group we have now, but we can bring back the "more" riding. The question though, is what the group wants. Just because I want to ride more, stop less, doesn't mean it will be beneficial to the joy others experience.
I hope this next month, can be a throw back to the old days. (jaded-rider)

Alec, your post is wonderful! It makes me wish I was there. But the past is not coming- the future is! And wonderful amazing things come from change. But along the path to those wonderful things also comes failure. We try and fail and try and fail and try and then finally we don't fail and it is better than before!
Yeah Yeah Yeah! We will get there- don't you worry.
Costumes must come back! and maybe we should have cleaning parties in the end? We shall figure out what to do about the messes.
