i bet you david byrne is just AWESOME enough to want to FLY out to LOS ANGELES for a very special ride in his honor hosted by none other than the Midnight Ridazz.
I'm calling you OUT!!! DAVID BYRNE!!!
Come ride with us in the City of Dreams! The City of Angels!!
"I have been riding a bicycle in New York City for almost 30 years! For transport, not for sport. At first there were only a few of us. Loners, losers, maniacs and nerds. Some of the members of Talking Heads used to make fun of me and say I was going to turn into Pee Wee Herman — and they weren’t talking about his extensive porno collection."
He really is a dedicated rida. Last time I was in NYC I saw him cycle past me 3 times over the course of 4 days. I remarked about it to a friend that lives there and they were like "seeing David Byrne on a bike on the streets in NYC is like seeing a hot dog cart". He's everywhere.
I read recently that he had a nasty crash cycling home after a few too many. Sounds like he'd fit in just fine.
And, even if it doesn't work out, we should still have a ride in his honor. I mean, he really is an amazing advocate for us - Not to mention brilliantly gifted. I say we do it!
I think I read a blog before about his blog about his crash. Which means I am on the internet too much. Shit! I'm on it again. Damn!
I think it should be called the Road to Nowhere Ride. I love that song and it could add another twist to the ride.
i will write a letter to david byrne. i will ask him to join us.
...can we post a link to this thread over on his blog? in a comment field somewhere? there is a may 2008 post about his biking accident..... ooo...the internet....
we need him. we have reached our moment.
david!!
may this thread live on! in youtube talking heads (especially kermit!!) glory!!
I saw the Talking Heads on the their first US tour!!! Tickets were $2!!! That's right! Two freakin dollars. And yes the show was awesome. It was in a little tavern in Davis, CA.
If you want to run into David here in LA, you could just become an art gallery slut and wait to bump into him. Back in the day when I was an art slut, you could see him slutting around LA too doing the gallery scene.
I know this is a gimme but......The play list should have lots of Os Mutantes, Liquid Liquid, Modern Lovers and Fela Kuti etc. etc. in addition to Talking Heads. I got lots of that when needed.
You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
and you may find yourself in another part of the world
and you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large bikemobile
and you may find yourself in a beautiful house
with a beautiful bike
and you may ask yourself, well, "How did I get here?"
Yeah seems kinda steep for us ridazz. I ain't going to this cause I saw The Talking Heads for $2 and saw Donald Shoup for free at the bike summit. Michelle? You'd have to pay me $25 to see her! Jimmy? Why would I pay to go see Jimmy?
I'm reinvesting the $25 into the bike community instead.

The money is also going to the the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, it looks like, which (in my opinion) is not a bad place to kick in a few dollars to be honest...
Hey Sinaphile, nice meeting you on Saturday @ BFF.
I agree the money goes to a good organization, for which I have taken advantage of many of their free events. But I think they should do it on a Give what you can basis.

Totally! It was a great time! Great meeting you too!!
I agree to an extent about the pay what you can, since a lot of us ain't got the fundage to necessarily do this, but for me? Two things I believe in massively: Bicycles & Libraries. plus David Byrne? I think I'm gonna havta shell out the money and do it. I would love to hear him talk about this. But then again...I'm a huge n3rd. I love going to panel discussion stuff anyways...
oct. 2 2009 david byrne will be here in LA to talk about his book "bicycle diaries". we should definitely get him to come out and ride! David Bryne Bicycle Diaries
