Brings up a question I've been wondering about:
Does this style of helmet provide better protection than the streamliney type? I have a decent Bell "road helmet" but it feels so light and flimsy even though it's supposedly good. It barely covers a third of my head, as most helmets do. If all I care about is safety and I could care less about aerodynamics and ventilation, is this shell style better?
I tried a motorcycle helmet once and it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be but you lose some peripheral vision and I don't want that when I'm riding in a pack. ...or at all, really.

They don't do any classification on one helmet offering more protection than another. It just has to pass some standard tests. The tests are outlined
here. So what you have left is someone offering their testimonial or opinion. Skating helmets are made to take alot more abuse than bicycle helmets, so this should be far more durable than a bike helmet.
What I tell everyone is to buy the helmet they like. If you like the helmet, then you're gona wear it all the time. It just needs the CPSC cert.

Still, none of us will be able to beat SP00K's kevlar, tactical helmet.
