i have front AND back brake on my fixie after getting stitches in my forhead from going over the handlebars due to a bad driver thinking he could fit in the bike lane to turn right; he couldn't so he just stopped right in front of me.
I threw a back brake on and now i don't swerve when i brake. I know it's not cool to have brakes on a fixed but i love the stopping power in traffic and lights.

yeah ian, brakes will cost you ten bucks unless you dont want to work on it in the shop, then they bump it up to 20$.
Brakes are great, and if you must barspin, figure out a gyro.

If you could ride safely without brakes like I've seen a few do, then keep doing what you're doing.
I only prefer brakes due to the spread out area in which I live and the lack of any noticeable traffic-calming to take advantage of.
However, I still believe that there are an equal amount of riders out there that still manage to crash alot with brakes.
Not paying attention, poor maintenance, pad-burnout, no-lights and colliding with shit.
