Stolen Transportation. A sad, sad day for us.

Might you post or send this to someone who can get the word out?
Hey all!
Uhhhhhmmmm: Feeling a little violated and vulnerable here… Sadness ensued this morning by my little dog and I when upon taking the trash to the curb, we discovered our bike has been stolen. A gosh darned 30 year old silly looking road bike - stolen from out of my front yard at the bottom of a cull de sac on top of a giant hill… What happened to honesty and integrity? UGH! Please follow the link to read my craigslist post. You’ve seen the bike before. Help me get it back!
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/bik/1377282054.html
Please pass this onto anyone who might help, any mailing lists you are on or know of, and pray hard to whatever god you have a subscription for. My happiness and that of my dog depends on it… Hurry man! While there’s still time!
Regards,
Anne Tinomy

That does suck....
If you find the thief BEAT THEM DOWN. And may you and your dog feast on their flesh and make chew toys out of those thieving ears, and play fetch with the digits of their thieving hands.

The amount of stuff people post about themselves never ceases to amaze me. For what, a $100 bike?
Anne, can you post if you have a roommate or not? I know I could probably find out if I friended you or stalked you, but I'm too lazy.

I'm sure the perceived value of one's *transportation* especially if its her sole transportation is more than $100...who are you to put someone down over that?! Sheesh...

I probably wouldn't have said anything, but she is my old friend from theatre school. It hit a nerve.
Anne contacted me. Looks like she's going to be back on two wheels now.

What would you put the perceived value of a "gosh darned 30 year old silly looking road bike" at? I know you could get one for alot less than $100. And where does it say it's her sole transportation?

With paniers and all the time and energy she put into it...maybe but not likely. And it likely has more "value" to her than $100...not for me or YOU to say.

If it did have alot more value to her, then why didn't she lock it up? Sounds like it wasn't even locked. How much sentimental value do you think she had in it if she didn't lock it? Panniers don't really put this thing over $100 either. You can get panniers NEW for $35.

Finally, the point I was making is that she puts out ALL of her private info online for $100. It wasn't that her bike is worth $100. For the sake of argument, what is a dollar amount where it's acceptable for a young female to put all that info out online? If I quoted a price of $400 for a "gosh darned 30 year old silly looking road bike" be acceptable to you? You would have no problem then?

I'm going to "agree" that I wouldn't post all of my info..tho with a little research I'm sure anyone can find just about anything about any of us. Perhaps it is (mis) guided trust in the community. I chose to overlook that choice of hers and support her search for her bike instead.
Judge lest you be judged...but I suppose you've been subjected to that a lot lately...

I'm with big Al on this one.
A little more prudence would go a long way.
I mean, seriously, we don't know who comes onto these forums.
I'm sure bike thieves use it to some extent, shit, I know I would... and I'm no thief.
Science. Thievery is a science as well.

It sucks to loose a bike but there is a rash of thefts. Why would anyone leave a prized possession unattended? We live in Los Angeles, keep your wits about you.

Anne lives on a quiet cul de sac. I'm even surprised it was taken from her yard.
Anyhow, she learned her lesson. I met her and she's really nice.
She's training for ALC next year and will be volunteering at bike oven soon.
Shit happens.
And Allan is paranoid.

Yes, we will go straight for the cold black heart that looked down at my little beauty's comfy roll-cage and consciously opted to whisk it away.
I'm glad that I only have 50 or 60 more years of despising this person because I'm fairly certain the chance is about 0.0ppppppttttttttfffffffffffffff of running into him (or her) after I'm dead.

I'm overjoyed that someone would take such an interest in discussing my safety and security, my lapse in judgement, and the [lack of] worth of my '30 year old silly looking road bike' would bring. I've always enjoyed these types of exchanges far more interesting than helpful suggestions or offers of assistance anyway. In a world filled to the brim with douche-rags, you'll always find someone what manages to climb to the top.
Thank you so much Joe, for being willing to hand over something that belonged to you when I had something taken from me. I'm very grateful to you for this, and if there is ever something you need, please let me know so that I can return the favor.
And also to you J Harv and to you, Jen and to all the everyone who have been kind, supportive and gracious enough not to chide me for the obvious mis-judgement concerning the area I live in and the character of those around me.
For the record, no - it wasn't locked. It would have appeared to be so to the casual observer, but the addition of Beauties ride car was an unanticipated hindrance to my short lock. Most every night she comes inside with me; last night I came in alone, sun drained, and full of b.b.q. and beer and anticipation of cushion. Of course the thought of thievery crossed my mind, but... I figured I'd get it before I crashed. & that's the problem with crashing, see?
No - It's an inexcusable display of common stupidity - Summers Eve back there has a point. Still, that does nothing to cheapen the amount of pride, joy or attachment I have concerning my bike. The fact that I got it 5 years ago, on e-bay - essentially paying less for the bike than for shipping, does nothing to diminish that. How is it that you feel about your bike? In that, you-sir 1 - chances are, tu y yo son como los dos.
I brought that little bike up to shape with the help of friends who knew then what I didn't. I'm fairly prepared to diagnose and repair any issue I experience; I know how to ride her well and had recently gained confidence in adding an very well-behaved dog to an already rear heavy ride. Go ahead, laugh.
I was looking forward to adding gears so that I can climb hills without doubting the existence of god. So yeah, the panniers are new, they help me go shopping on days that I want to eat food without standing around in the sun in the midst of laborers. The yellow bar was a quick train repair of a ripped tape & by golly, it was a celebration to last throughout the day when I found a rainbow sitting pad at the Goodwill. Who wouldn't like to have their own portable seating that doubles as a dainty crotch bar?
Regardless of the recent additions I've made in preparation for the upcoming training time: This fuck*ng bike was more valuable than a lifetime's worth of conversation with grumpy old Mr. Vinegar here, without question. I've no idea who this merry prankster is, but even my age(d) Centurion had more style and substance than him. Should anyone wanna prove me wrong in that, it sounds like you know where I live.
Don't worry, I'll be around.
Wow. On a lighter note - Yay! I gots me a bike thanks to Mr. Borfo Now I can do things like normal humans. Beaut will be disappointed that her bike rides have been suspended, but - such is life. You know - even user-1 served a purpose - I really needed something that would take the focus of all this anger I'm feeling off of me. It's been a little hard to breath consistently today.
If'n you all wanna - We're working on creating a network of gardens/resources aimed at building stronger communities by helping out when a neighbor needs a hand, by sharing a bit of what we grow with each other and by donating any surplus to friendly neighborhood action groups for distribution.
Thank you all a lot and please keep an eye out for my lovely.
