080808 SMPD gone WILD!!

CRIMANIMALZ and Lindsey Lohan present:
This ride will consist of disruptive civil obedience. Obedience because we will follow the law - but we will do so in a way which causes extreme disruption. I can't disclose the details, but come and I promise you'll have a fun time, and see a spectacle. Direct action and party time will be sexxxing it up on the streets of Santa Monica.
We all know that Ridazz and Critical Mass don't really go out of their way to disrupt traffic - we're just victims of our own popularity. We're victims!! (LULZ) Actually - corking keeps the group compact and tight - increasing safety and decreasing disruption. SMPD doesn't get it. They're a bit thick so we're going to provide an object lesson.
Do it for SMCM! Do it for the LULZ!!
Afterward - ride to the pillow fytes!!!

Y'all,
Consider this a first edition of an ongoing series. If all goes according to plan we can do it on Saturday afternoon, Monday morning, and XMas. If you can't make it this time perhaps you can make it next time - but do try to make it this time.
Our message is that every time that SMPD harasses CM we will do this for the remainder of the month. We have fun, and they are embarrassed because they can't control the situation. This will raise the ire of residents, against cyclists AND the PD. That 2nd part is what we want - because while residents can do little to cyclists, they have the most power to bring the SMPD to heel. The first part is unfortunate, but unavoidable.
After the ride we will put out a guide on how to do your own "SMPD gone WILD" ride.

Should we anonymously tip off the police? They just might not read a thread with "SMPD" in the title. They aren't what you call "go getter".
Maybe we can call in and report ourselves to the police.

police distpatch: what do you mean. Are they breaking traffic laws?
caller: No they are slowing traffic down by stopping and waiting there turn at the red lights and stop signs.
police dispatch: so whats the problem?
caller: they are just annoying, can't you do something?
police dispatcher: (typing into the communication system ) call out the swat team.

I just spoke to Jesus and he gave me a great idea for spoke cards.
Double sided reflective spoke-cards so the fucks can't bust anybody for not having reflectors!
Jesus said you can save that suggestion or use it. Its up to you.
Just call him if you have any questions.
I'll be there in spirt, so definitely save warm thoughts of me if they take any of you to the pokey.

I didn't go because To be honest I'm not sure its the right tactic... to me CM in any city is about getting support from the community and I'm not sure that this method is going to win much sympathy from the community or anyone who might be on the fence about riding their bikes with the mass. It might scare people away for fear of an even harsher response from the smpd.... BUT to each his own and I learned my lesson last time I naysayed the crimanimalz. They know what they iz doingz. You never know, it might just work! Its definitely an epic LULZ of a protest.
As I've said before, I'm the last person to be suggesting anything for smcm, but I think if you just bear the storm of the crackdown and simply obey the law, the cops are doomed to failure as is. Introducing new tactics... I don't know, we'll see how it goes!

so all in all, it went very well... Really smooth. Don't quite know the effect it had in the grand scheme yet, but i would say it was a complete success.

The flyers were a good idea, but there wasn't enough of them. Also feeding waiting motorists grapes proved to be a hit. I will be doing that again next ride.

the nurse at UCLA who was attending my friend, Brandon, on Saturday in the ICU.. he tells her he is a cyclist and was at a protest in Santa Monica before his accident.. she knew what he was talking about.. she was in one of the cars.. waiting.. hehehe!

Also, I came up with a better idea than grapes: those little individual serving boxes of raisins. Print out little leaflets and tape them to the boxes and hand them out. I already got a whole bunch at the 99c store.

If Santa Monica PD would have a task force set up to catch the home invasion robber instead of chasing bicycles, maybe that 70 yea- old woman wouldn't have been robbed on Ashland Ave.
Let's hope all this publicity wakes up the community to demand that SMPD drop their harassment of bicyclists and put more resources in actually protecting the citizens from crime.
