Buying clothes?

Okay, so we all know the old story of how hipsters love to raid the thrift stores for old clothes to be cool.
Then there's those that actually go to retail stores to get some overpriced, ripped up jeans that look like they've been cut up by a four year old.
So, in light of this, how often does everyone actually go clothes shopping around here?
Myself? I usually go every 2-3 years depending on how much weight is gained or lost.
There's years where I'm putting in so much work and staying away from home where I usually forget what food is and drop several sizes below 40.
Then there's times where I get lazy and I just pull out the other clothes I had stashed away.
Then there's shit that gets lost due to it being moved around by some 'tard and I've got to replace it anyway.
What do I buy? Usually tactical pants, relaxed-fit jeans and some t-shirts from those 5 for $10 stores.
Only reason I brought this up was because one of my friends says I'm about the plainest thing next to an Amish person.

Well, I tend to replace those and drawers on a more frequent basis.
The only other clothes I've never really owned were suits, or business attire of any particular type.
Aside from polo shirts and some button-ups for the occasional job interview(trucking companies tend to really not give a shit), it's always a simple mix for me.

It has been a while since I bought new pants and I really need new ones. None of current pants fit me since I've lost a lot of weight and it seems my new saddle is rubbing holes in my pants where my sit bones are.

i am kind of sporadic, if i happen to see some cool shirt i'll impulse buy it right away, i haven't bought any new pants in about a year though hmmmm...
got some shoes for the first time in like 2 years this weekend, i went to sportie la on melrose, the smaller of the 2 shops there, got some pretty loud adidas, and some somewhat plain pumas (the bode model, i love cheech wizard!)....for shoes, it's usually adidas or pumas or maybe some nikes
for pants, i love dickies a bit on the baggy side, i always end up just cutting them to length because i am kind of short (5'6")... i used to love phat skate jeans like old fresh jive and planet earth and stuff, then rave pants i guess, kik wear, caffeine, g.a.t.,, those companies all made dope shirts too...most of my shorts that i use when i bike ride, are in fact old rave pants that have just been cut into shorts haha, whatever works, i get some bagginess and don't get caught in the chain =) (love the huge ass pockets too!)
shirts, i just love cool t shirts, i work for the company that makes ed hardy and christian audigier clothes but i can't do any of our stuff, it's just too, hmmm, shiny and stuff just everywhere, i dunno'...i have a cool shirt with a big gun and some crayola crayon bullets, i like some toki doki and gloomy bear and stuff like that, love basic puma and adidas stuffs, love graff art shirts if it's tasteful and not like a can of paint barged on me haha, cool patterns and trippy stuff is always cool too
i like fun socks, argyles, cats and dogs and cars and lightning bolts or anything neato that isn't too fruity hehe
i need to re up the dickies, the few i have that i wear to work every day are very worn looking, i probably look tore up lol...want to get more with the double knee and small pocket on the right side above the knee

S&S t shirts and undies for me. Also MR t's. Then spandex under shorts I've had like forever when it's a longer ride. I don't go anywhere where they don't allow biker peeps. Tired getting into fights cause of how I'm dressed. I did buy some walking shoes cause I wana start doing some stairway walks tho.

I've been wanting new clothes but keep putting it off out of frustration. Mainly I have trouble with the fact that after getting into racing my waist to inner thigh ratio is out of whack. Pants that fit properly in the waist are uncomfortably restrictive in the legs, and I think the trend of skinny cut legs doesn't help. I think I have now finally resigned to the fact that if I want pants that are comfortable I will have to get them in a waist too big and have them tailored down, or buy expensive pants from niche clothing companies that market to cyclists specifically who often use a small amount of stretchy material in their blend. I hate clothes shopping.

I use to have the same problem ... American Apparel and most skate company jeans fit really well in situations like this.

Waist to hip ratio...ah yes, now you know what it's like to be a girl.
My waist is incredibly small, my hips are incredibly big. The boys love it, but it is impossible to find anything that fits. Especially since I am not even 5' tall.
And I need some new riding pants soon...all I've got is cutoff shorts and it's getting colder (For LA).
I can't afford to buy clothes anymore. $30 at St Vincent De Paul's (Awesome thrift WAREHOUSE in Boyle(?)/Lincoln(?) Heights) is a shopping spree to me. I buy thrift cause I have no money...just happen to be a hipster too ; p

Def check it out. Basically all the thrift stores on Melrose get their stuff there and then mark it up. Used clothing for like three or four dollars. Lots of furniture and other treasures as well.

I haven't been shopping to buy a lot of clothes in a long time. I just replace things as they wear out usually one at a time. I am proud to say that I put all my own holes in my jeans and I have matching scars for most of them. I used to turn my nose up to thrift stores when I was in high school (trying to be cool I guess), but I've found some damn good stuff at Goodwill including cycling jerseys, Italian wool sweaters, and all kinds of really good clothes. It just takes a long time to look.

so, umm, as to the "hero thighs" thing, for guys the solution is simple, buy girls stretch jeans.
They stretch, so if you want tight jeans, those will flex with your movement, instead of hulking across the thigh or something.
for girls, i have no idea.
I havent bought clothes in a while, but I thrift most of the time.
Or i just find my clothes, like the sweet corduroy pants I found in the street under a car last week.

Wow... this thread is just.. wow.
bentstrider- thank. your threads are always so awesome. this one's the best I've seen in a long time.
Coldcut, Chynna, Krista- It's the WINE FLU! I SWEAR! I HAZ IT TOO, SO BAD!
natefrogg- hipster. ew.
la duderina- I concur.
Fuzzbeast- My solution, at least, is to buy up a size in guy's skinny jeans. Comfy, plenty of room, and doesn't get caught in the drivetrain. Only downside is the necessity of a belt.
And on topic: I buy clothes any time I need a costume for a ride and don't have something to improvise with at home. For example, the search for red tights (for MR: Through the Looking Glass) led to my current set of jeans.
And whoever said Levi's are indestructible, you've never met me. I had a pair that only lasted a week against my saddle.

5 dollar printed tee's from downtown la's santee alley, or a plain blank shirt
pants, whatever is cheap and looks good from marshalls or tjmaxx (hardly anything, so i almost never buy jeans)
18 dollar dickies shorts from the swapmeet
pumas, adidas... plain and simple, no flashyness.... wish i could still find pony's :(

What do people think is expensive for clothes ? On average I spend about 35 a shirt and at least 75 for jeans ... but reading some of these post I'm getting the feeling that I'm in the overpriced retail store category ...

I usually get Wrangler relaxed fit for about $20, while those plain, colored t-shirts go for about 5 for $10.
Cargo/tactical pants from the surplus store or OutdoorWorld go for about $40, but I use them at work and at play.
