The photog nuts at weblog Photojojo show off their MacGyver chops, demonstrating how to develop film in a pinch with coffee and vitamin C.
Let's get it out of the way off the bat: The whole coffee-plus-vitamin-C trick isn't a replacement for regular developer. The results, however, are distinctive, and if nothing else, it appeals to our love of all things MacGyver.
So provided you've got a few common grocery items like instant coffee, vitamin C powder, and a some more specialized goodies like a daylight developing tank, you're ready to roll. Granted, we'd much prefer a totally grocery-store friendly version, but this one still gets an A for ingenuity.

Yes, we will do this one day.
Mattspeed, perfect timing, Tren Way has been developing film at my place in Burbank on Monday nights for the last 6 weeks. We have very limited room, though, but sometimes there is only one person developing.
I usually have Rodinal and HC110 on hand.
Tren Way Lab is closed tonight because I'm working on stuff for my ride this weekend but we'll probably be open next Monday.

I saw an old old picture that someone developed using water out of the hudson river???..one of those east coast rivers that has heavy traffic...anyway the water was SO polluted that it developed the film. ick

Absolutely. I think I may shoot a roll with the Holga out at the poker ride and develop it with coffee next week.

Yeah, Mook asked me why, if I have an enlarger, trays, and shit, why I rent at Translight. It's too much trouble to do it in my small place.

the largest pinhole camera ever made was made last spring in a hangar in the LA area, was part of one of the art schools around here, I forget which, the hole in the wall was made with a drill, the other end of the room, like 100 feet across was the exposure. it's amazing how you can turn a large object into a pinhole camera.
