what do you think about planning a punk rock MR ride? we could include such stops as Oki Dog, Safari Sams, possibly some historical punk rock sites, if any can accomodate a few hundred people. We'll play some punk rock, and we can even break out our old punk rock uniforms.

no, their website is still up. and besides, i've only been riding with MR for a little under a year, and I havent seen one. given the exponential growth of the Ridazz, do you think this would draw much interest?

the first punk rock ride was up in NOHO. the 2nd one was to a photo gallery thing. I think if you make it an official midnight ridazz ride, it will draw a lot of people. but like i said, its been done before so I think people are looking for different ideas for rides.
yeah lets check out Oki Dog but not eat there. that place is sick.

there used to be this guy named Ron, who was like a sex-boy tweeker. he would wear nothing but jeans and an open leather jacket with no shirt. BUT he would deep-fry our oki dogs with a fried egg like nobody's business.
one day, I asked him what an oki burger was, and he explained that it was 8 tortillas, 6 burgers, cabbage, peppers, chili and cheese, all for $6 and it was free if you could eat the whole thing. after putting all that food on the grill, it took nearly half an hour before anything could cook again.
needless to say, i havent been able to buy an Oki Burger like that since he got caught stealing from the till. In any case, I'd love to see a ride go to Oki Dog. That idea is open for stealing if any ride organizers are listening.

safari sams still books shows. the two shows ive been to this year that were supposed to be there (corrupted and amebix) were outsourced or whatever to other venues because they thought too many people would show up. corrupted were at the regent and it was packed, and amebix did two shows at the cobalt and both of them were packed. i fucking hate the cobalt but goddamn, it was amebix!

Safari Sams is closed....Last week a sign was up for some church or restaurant moving in....not sure exactly....

yeah i rode by and it looked like safari sams is no more. that building is like bad luck. everything that opens there closes after a few months.

Suggestion for the marathon ridazz punk rock crowd is where Devonshire downs was. They had many great punk rock gigs there in the early 80's. There was also an awesome BMX track if you where into at that site. It is where the SFV Fair was held for many years and that famous haunted house was there, what was it's name? Also the famous
Newport 68 festival headline by Jimi Hendrix was held there. Someones Dad from this community also co-headline one day of the event.

In hollywood, RAJI's and that roller skating ring where the CVS is now on Santa Monica and La Ciegna. This ride could be like a ride arc/ armed libraians type.

there were 2 strip clubs in that same mini mall...one in the south east corner and also where safari sams was.
anyone remember THE CAMEO ROOM formally located at Normandie and Sunset..

Is Oki Dog still in business?
I used to get the treiyaki burrito back in the early 80's, when all the punks would go there after the clubs let out.

I was 18, she was 29...my friend's dad was head photographer at Hustler Magazine. I was knocking on his front door, for my friend while she was there too looking for his dad..neither were home and she had some beer. She was a dancer there...yes i went in The Cameo Room. That's all I will reveal.

A couple of years ago, i was able to pry the door open with a pen knife, but an alarm went off. Now they have it all gated up. i hope it wasnt my fault.

one of the first glam-rock clubs is now the post office next to Joe Peeps on Whitsett and Magnolia.
also, dont forget club 88 and the hong kong.

Haha, definitely, I saw Black Flag, Fear, TSOL, Sin 34, Circle One, and a shitload of bands I can't remember now. Nice big, simple rectangular room, with easy access up the walls and into the rafters.
Does anybody remember the place in Studio City on Ventura Blvd that originally was a garage, and they had kept the roll up door and put the stage behind it, they'd use the roll up door as a stage curtain. I only saw the minutemen there, but it was a fun place, wish I'd gone to more shows there.
And not so much punk, but I saw a ton of bands there in the early 80s was the Music Machine on Pico. Most epic night was Bo Diddley with members of X and the Blasters backing him, FUCKING JOHN LEE HOOKER WAS THERE AND SANG A COUPLE SONGS, TOO. It was way over sold but thankfully me and my buddy got into the late show.

Oh hello everybody; sorry just got here. Yes, we are planning this! The period I know & love is the late 70's to early '80's so probable locations may include (but aren't limited to) Masque, Starwood, Cathay de Grande, Club Lingerie, Madame Wong's, Hong Kong Cafe, Vex, Anti-Club, Elk's Bldg, Baces Hall, Ukranian Hall, Oki Dog, ON Klub, Al's Bar, Club 88, Music Machine, etc, etc.
We hope to have a small booklet or handout giving a little history and a suggested reading list, because we're obviously not going to try to stop at all those locations.

Maybe you could have an I.E. version where the ride goes downtown Riverside, where Spanky's used to be...and then ride over to the Showcase Theater. Same owner....
....actually, that would be boring. never mind. But, that is where punk rock was, for a good long time.
