Sell out or profit for who you are?

[I borked my previous post - I'm trying again]
In
this other thread RB spoke about a director coming to this forum to request our cooperation for a production. I would like to address this in general not tied to any particular project and expand on the issue of selling out aka leveraging our talents for profit.
If it's an artsy no budget independent movie like Studiodrome's, I see the director coming here asking for help.
For commercial projects, it's not going to happen. They hire people to do that.
And by "commercial" I don't mean "evil".
The Bones shoot was of commercial nature but the use of a group bike ride was for a nice serendipity moment. Nothing negative about it at all. To the contrary. At the same time it was just a vignette. They could have a used a shot of a flock of birds instead and the episode wouldn't have changed at all. This can happen a lot. The way they often think is "let's throw a shot of
" This may be a shot of a group bike ride without the project being about group bike rides.
The question is; how are we going to deal with commercial requests in the future?
I'm not suggesting we do this but if you want to go pro someone needs to set up a database of interested of ridazz with rida photo , bike(s) photo, email, phone number, age, height. That's standard stuff for any extras casting agency. Then you get listed in indudtry directories like LA411.com Profit.
When RB talks about all the talent in the community I get a little bit frustrated because it's true and at the same time this website promotes anonymity and fake handles which doesn't help people with matching talents find each other and go beyond riding bikes and drinking beers together.
In conclusion every Friday at 7pm before the ride, everybody show up with name tags listing your name, profession, education & qualifications. Yeah.
Discuss.
No seriously. I see people in the community with two college degrees working as baristas. I see smart, talented people, unemployed and couchsurfing. On one hand I LOVE that this community is 100% outside of the system and the economy and on the other hand I'm thinking, if we all have to sell our asses to pay the rent, is there a way to do this by leveraging the talents within the community?
What would _iJunes do?

Well isn't that enough! What else should it do? Wait don't answer that, I won't like the response. I like the red one better.

I rent bikes and build customs for movies and music videos etc on a rare occasion. It's business as long as they pay it's fine by me. Trying to trade "being on tv" for goods and services is a different matter. The question of "selling out" would imply that one has something that they can sell that in doing so would diminsh the group in some way. I have yet to see that happen.

Having the company that is interested in our collective talents being completely up front as to what is expected of us. This would go a longs ways to answering many questions people have. I really take exception to a company hiring a few ridazz that hype something, when the only thing that they are interested in is getting shit for free. Obviously if it's someone in our community, then that's a different matter.
If there's a few of us that wants/needs to be attention whores, then I guess we could have a list or a thread or something. I'll be the first.
Hello I'm User1 and I have 6 different bikes, I'm on the older side of the spectrum of riders at MR. I like nekid chicks and will work for free if the set has nekid chicks. Otherwise pay will be negotiated.

Words of wisdom. I hope there is some way to do this by leveraging the talents.

seriously..
i remember a bit ago some of us talking about setting up a dream studio, because theres so many of us in this community that do different things that we're so amazingly talented at, be mechanics, design, math, medicine, etc. collaboration is generally the joy of life, and i wish we did it more.
but i have to agree, theres a difference between helping out the community, and then selling goods.
