$1100 for a stretched high-ten frame beach cruiser seems a little steep.

You can probably get them cheaper if you go straight to the manufacturers. Check these out:

Richie, the Xtracycle / Free Radical kit works for me. It can carry 8 canvas grocery bags (4 on each side) plus pizzas on top, or a cart's worth of stuff from Costco, or a 5 foot Xmas tree (with a little help from a 5' oak plank here). It does take time to lash stuff down carefully. It's not like just putting stuff in a car.

Nice thing about the X is that one starts from a hybrid or MTB frame, so one gets the low gears useful for carrying heavy stuff uphill. But whatever the type, utility bikes are cool!

if i could i would post a pic of my bike.on tacos i carried a 12 roll of scott tolite paper,a core of wood,a coke 2 liter,a bag of kindling,and 2 liter fluids;32 oz each + more.

I rode behind a rider who had an xtracycle recumbent. It was a trike, fast on the downhills, not so fast on the climbs.

Yeah, not a whole lot of speed in the climbing department, but not a whole lot of pain either.
