2nd Fridays... How do I create a ride...

people ask here and there about creating rides and how to get in on some second friday action.
second Fridays are the beast that is the beast... expect anywhere from 800-1200 ridazz in Los Angeles so with that in mind I'm putting it out there that if you really want to plan something you should have a posse of at least 3 Ridazz to help plan and support you in the process of making spoke cards and riding the scout / test rides...
some tips and lessons learned:
due to the massive size the rides should be on 4 lane streets so that we have our own lane and the evil cars have theirs.
RIGHT hand turns are much much much more preferred than left hand turns. for a huge mass it's just easier and less intruisive to traffic. the occasional left is ok.
something this massive should never cross the path of a freeway exit.
1 rest/re-group point every 10-15 miles is about adequate
rides should range in length from 15-25 miles (our incredibly scientific bulletproof 256 bit encrypted Ridazz Poll has shown this)
rides should start at a spot that can hold 800-1200 Ridazz and should end at a spot equally as accomodating
routes need a test run the week of the ride to make any last minute changes based on road conditions... routes go on the back of spoke cards
spoke cards for second friday are a great tradition (and collectible!) hit up the previous month's regime to borrow the laminator.
any bike crews interested in throwing a 2nd Friday ride hit me up to get on the calendar. we have an internal calendar for 2nd fridays for which anyone with a decent plan can get down. first come first serve. personally I would like especially to see a ride go down in a new part of the city (other than the usual echo park silverlake area. How about west side or the Valley? SGV? South side?

I really appreciate all the good suggestions. I wouldn't expect 800-1200 ridazz for a new ride in the SFV or SGV (at least not initially), so I wouldn't worry about not passing freeway exits or riding on 2 lane roads in that case.

I know there is bicycle love in SGV. lots of trails and paths too no? all it takes is a few people to get the snowball rolling.... our first ride was 8 by ride number two there were 20 people... make it fun and tell a friend to tell a friend.

speaking of sgv..........
next week i'll be scouting a route from "echolake" to the san gabriel mission. the outward route is what really needs scouting. but the return leg is pretty simple and on nice wide roads.
the return leg (san gabriel mission to olvera street) is the path taken 225 years ago to establish some dirty dusty pueblo. Now that little shit hole is the kick ass city we live in now.
so some day next week i'll see if there are any interested ridazz that want to take a ride north east and back

Barleye, turn off the computer, you refresh junkie, and go out and ride your bike. Just because your girlfriend is gone this weekend doesn't mean you can veg in front of the computer.

I would like to suggest that a rest/regroup point should be every 5 miles.
5 miles is about 20 to 30 minutes of riding.
If you want to laminate with thicker (5mil) laminate paper. I would suggest to plan ahead, go on ebay and find the best deal. Usually about $21 for 50 sheets of 9"x11" 5 mill. Going to kinko at the Last minute is very expensiv,. $2.50 to $3.50 per sheet. Don't wait til the last minute on the spoke card.
Joe Borfo knows of a place that does rolled out laminate for cheap cheap cheap in the expensive department. The only downside is that the laminate is thin, (if that matters to you).

Sexy's right. I went to Pasadena to Angel's School Supply on Colorado and paid $.49 per sq. ft. of 3 mil laminate. The 500 Spoke cards cost me about $12. I inserted the cards myself and cut them up at home. By far the cheapest deal around. And i had very little waste once i figured out the routine.
And the 5 mil is nicer but they didn't have any there.
