try to fix this
Thread started by

Thanks shaddy for working on the forum.
How about fixing the
calendar?
Nothing fancy but how about making it sort by event date instead of entry date.
reply
i believe it is sorted by event date except that dates that are in the future are shown first
maybe i can have it send you to today's date by default and then you can move forward for past dates and backward for future dates?
(all changes have to be ok'd by roadblock)
snowcone10.6.09 - 1:55 pm
reply
that would be great if you could sort it so that the calendar link lands on the current date. let me know when you are ready to upload.... thanks Shaddy. your work is appreciated.

How bout changing the link "www.gmap-pedometer.com" that's in the "Add a Ride" tab? Change it to show something like this, http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3243624 , instead of some freaking route every time you click it?

yeah actually that's happening today
it's because of the timezone issue.

OK... Thanks....But I can see the same thing in the right column as well.
What's really nneded is to replace the pagination system of 10 events per day with a more calendar like presentation by day or week or month.
If I want to plan a ride for around Dec 13, there is no way to figure out if there other events around that day without clicking around a bunch of pages.
Thanks.

There are several rides per day, a calendar like that is pointless.
What's useful is being able to lookup a specific day easily. Right now you have to page through the events guessing what page has what days.

Blah.... too much info at one time, and it's awkward to read. I'd rather have a list of the events, with descriptions, and an image, and organized by week, month, or day instead of pages.

wat!
bikeboom style calender shows all the rides for the month, instantly. No paging back and forth fishing for rides, or remembering what rides were on what days. You click on the link in the day your interested in and you'll get all the eye candy you want. It's very compact and easy to see. I don't see how you think it's too much info. All it's doing is giving you the ride title.
Plus this is a layout that used in other boards, and is quite popular. You got a better example?

The way it is now I think is fine, but with a few tweaks:
1) Be able to view either day by day, week to week or month to month.
2) Day to day, can show full descriptions of each ride.
3) Week to week can show title, image, summary.
4) Month to month can show titles only, displayed out in a calendar for those that want that.
I'm down for that.

I really don't care if these opinions are in place or not. I would just like to see a month of rides listed on one page so people can instantly see where there's an open slot. Basically like bikeboom has it.
4 years on, and I still can't remember if it's a left or a right after picking a random page in the ride calendar. Drives me nuts.

I meant to write "the current system has 10 events per page" and I wrote "10 events per day" meh.
I don't care if it's a grid system like bikeboom or a linear system (one event below the other) but the breakdown should be by month/week/day not record count.
And if you want, you can go all fancy and ajaxy making months, weeks expand without reloading the page.
The FUTURE calendar would be most useful for people who plan rides in the FUTURE. Two,three, four months from now. Finding out what's going on this week is easy the way it is.

There's far more than the main rides happening. Looking at a whole calendar like bikeboom, you can see where there's a few less. It's a heck of alot easier to plan a date for a ride and not having to remember the dates of the other rides. And since when is that a requirement for posting a ride? The coyote ride is a prefect example. If he saw the whole calendar he could have seen that there's a popular ride on the same day he's got his scheduled.

I agree with that, however, I am betting that a lot of people just change the date on a reoccurring ride so you don't need to re-enter information in another ride post, I know I do.

The way it's setup right now, it would be nice to see today's rides at the top. Then tomorrow's rides further down the page, and so on. Instead you have the rides on 9th at the top of the page. Then rides on the 8th in the middle. Then today's rides at the bottom of the page. Seems kinda wack, but it is an improvement from what we had before.

Also, what the hell is up with the automatic sign-out time on this site? Sometimes, it takes like an hour for my login to expire (even when I'm not clicking through the forums or anything) and sometimes it takes like 10 minutes. That's how it seems, anyway. Am I imagining this?
In any case, it's kind of obnoxious if I've started typing a comment and let it sit around for a while before I finish it and hit Post Reply. Of course I copy all my text to the clipboard before replying (it's become almost an involuntary reflex at this point), but it's still irritating to have to log back in again.

That is most definitely
not how it works, as anyone who has lost a comment they were writing can attest. The reason that copying the text of my reply has become almost a reflex is that getting signed out while typing a comment is such a common occurrence that it's virtually guaranteed to happen at least once a week.
I leave my browser window open pretty much all the time, so something else must be triggering the automatic sign-out. If your wireless connection flickers off for a second, does that also reset the connection or token or cookie or whatever?

He's talking about when you are previously logged in because you can see your user name on the top left, and you are writing a post within a thread. And say this post takes you over 15 minutes to complete because you are getting really into it and shit. Then, you hit post reply and it says you have to log in, and therefore everything you wrote is now gone! (unless you cut and paste everything like I have a habit of doing now). But this happens to people a lot. Especially long winded people like Sexy.

What Borfo and NathanSnider say.
I've even heard Roadblock cuss this time out feature.
Basically the more time you spend writing a thoughtful post. the more likely it is that your session will time out and after you hit reply you'll be asked to sign in (and rewrite) again.
Time out breeds troll behaviour.
Why write a long post and lose it when you can write

I've been logged out less than 2 min after I post up in another thread. I always keep another window open and use that window to log back in. Then copy and paste in a doc file. Then I make a copy of that doc file and stick it on my USB portable drive. Then I open that copy and compare the two files. If they're both are identical, then I hit post reply.
