Chichi, I'm glad you are alive. I hate those goddamn Mercedes drivers. They are the epitome of douchebags. This fucking town is really going to shit. I hope you have health insurance.
I'm sure somebody asked the question, but did you get the license plate #? Were there any witnesses? Did you report it to the police?

theres not much difference between saying, but only has one "t"...
opposed to:

Ive been hit by cars, had family in hit and runs... but I dont know if this ONLY has to be about showing sympathy... as cyclist, of course we care, but what can anyone really do, but wait until he posts again and says:
"whoa, that was crazy... Im gotta buy a helmet, does anyone have any recommendations?"
or
"hey thanks everyone for the posts, sorry about the grammar, i was hurting... hey, i can see why you guys thought my post was funny because of all the grammar shit... what an experience"

TROLLS DONT KNOW WHEN TO BE FUNNY AND WHEN TO BE SERIOUS.
Sorry for the trolls ChiChi. Normally, compassionate thinking human beings have empathy for others who get hurt erspecially something as fucked up as a hit and run. I hope these trolls don't ever have to go through what we have gone through. I COMPLETELY understand your situation. You were hit and you are upset and shocked. I went through this about 4 months ago when I got hit from behind.
What you NEED to do RIGHT NOW:
CALL A LAWYER
I would recommend calling Thomas Forsythe he specializes in bicycle related cases.
626-240-4633
YOU MUST CALL IMMEDIATELY as time is of the essence. There is likely damage to the suspect's car. That means the suspect RIGHT NOW is getting his/her car repaired. The way I found my suspect's car was that I called area body shops pretending to be the owner of the car and asked if "my car" was ready. I was lucky. There is an angel on these boards who was able to run the plates that I was lucky enough to be conscious to get while lieing on the pavement left for dead by the perpetrator.
If you got any of the plate. POST IT. There is an angel on this site that could potentially help get this scumbag.
Once again. I apologize for the trolls. They've obviously never gone through this before so just ignore them.
Also, thankyou for reporting this incident. I am putting together an article on hit and runs in Los Angeles and the law. We need every incident reported.

This is the main reason I created an alias on the boards. It seems when we know who the person being hurt is we respond and reply to their post(s) in a completely different manner. Needless to say, this shouldnt be the case. A person got injured and it might very well have been any one of us. Let's stop the hipocrisy amongst our own and then maybe we can take on the cars of the world as a united front.

It sounds like Chichi was in the right hand lane. Maybe she/he wasn't lit up enough? Either way, it seems like this type of incident happens a lot when a car quickly merges to go right.
When coming up at multi laned intersections, I straddle the line on the left side of the right lane so impatient and entitled douchebags can pass by to turn right. I do this even if I am going to make a right turn because I want to be away from the inside curb where the driver might not see me and t-bone me.
Whatever happened, I wish ChiChi would respond to wether the license plate or witness info was given to the cops. Help all of us, Chichi, by pursuing this though. Roadblock can help you too.

Yes, a person got hit and posted about it, and a few people joked about his/her POST. Its not judgmental, its not ruthless, its not mean-spirited.
Did I choose bad timing to joke about it? yes.
Should i have ever joked about the post? maybe not.
IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE INCIDENT. Why are you trying to elevate to that? Ive posted a few times already trying to clear that up, and I agree, its my fault for having to try to clear things up.
But its a mistake to equate the post to something like witnessing the incident and laughing as i walk by. And trust me on this: I GET YOUR POINT. Ive been hit by cars... I had a hit and run take place in front of me, and family member was the victim. "THAT" is not funny.
When my relative was acting weird after the incident -- we still laugh about it, because it was funny to see him tripping out (after the fact). There are parts you move on from and I understand that...

Hit & RUNS involving car & bike will not change.
They occur at an alarming rate with vehicles, and its one of the strangest facts about our world.
If planes were crashing into each other at the same rate, they airline industry would be put on hold. Trains? Boats? the same...
Why not cars? With all the car-related deaths, why doesnt the government halt all car use until shit gets straight??? We know why...
Truth is bicyclist will be just as vulnerable (if not more) to these incidents as other drivers are (let alone pedestrians too).
Enforcing the law doesnt seem to curb anything since it still happens outside of bike world. Cyclist/ Pedestrians need their city to be shaped around the pedestrian and not cars... until then... all else seems futile (honestly)... thats why I hope to encourage people to think about bike only streets, and such...
Cars dont respect each other,,, they're not gonna respect a cyclist... City life is dangerous...

I have been hit Once on bike and twice as a pedestrian and it does suck. Luckily I was able to walk/ride away every time, but you never know when an accident is going to be worse. Always wear a helmet. I have forgotten my helmet places once or twice and I'm usually terrified the entire time I'm riding.

The main reason that hit and runs occur is because the driver is drunk or not of legal status/no insurance.
As I've learned from my own accident, drivers are actually motivated to run from the scene because they dont want to suffer the legal consequences of a drunk driving accident conviction. since I was not injured with broken bones, the detective on my case decided against the police report which stated "felony hit and run" and went with "misdemeanor hit and run." (I'm practically ready to throw my computer out the window in anger over this)
THE LAW IS WORKING AGAINST OUR SAFETY IN A HUGE WAY.
I wish some advocacy organization like MADD or the LACBC would pick this up and run with it. WE NEED THIS LAW CHANGED so that hit and run carries a STIFFER PENALTY than drunk driving accident. Until this law changes, we are in danger.

Roadblock,
I get that... but dont you agree that its not drivers have this mindset: I can hit a cyclist and get a misdemeanor rather than felony. Of course people run because of the consequences... its really a bigger problem shaped around the bad choice to build cities around cars, and the amount/ ease of alcohol consumption.
I got hit about a month ago, by an SUV in Beverly Hills, but the lady was cool and i didnt get hurt too bad... I broke my fall pretty good. She was genuinely concerned and sorry... and I didnt want to see her punished for it.... So i just rode on... and was like "its cool"...
I guess I just say that to say.... sometimes you just have to let things go, and just say fuck it and move on. What do you really want to happen to this person? Have you been able to talk with the driver to express how you feel or anything of that sort?
I know I would want to kill driver of the BMW that slammed into my relative... til this day, I constantly wonder: does that guy still worry whether or not they might have killed someone? This is some real Woody Allen "Crimes and Misdemeanor" shit. What if it was a family member who just had a stupid bad day, but his/her life was pretty darn good regularly? Its weird, but I think about it all the time.
I dont know...

I'm only talking about hit and runs. If the driver stops and you can come to an agreement then it's all good.
Drivers run becuase they are drunk and don't want to get stick around and be caught with a DUI because taking your chances and running is a far better option. That became obvious to me only after my hit ad run. I told a friend of mine about it and I was shocked to hear him say "oh that dude was drunk" it hadn't occurred to me until I heard him say that that the dude who hit me was drunk. And once DJWheels informed me that the law is based on the scale of the injury I was floored. Even though I left the scene on a stretcher in an ambulance, landed 30 feet in front of my smashed bicycle, this piece of shit is only getting a misdemeanor?! That ain't right.

Unless the person is a threat to society (has a history), i think ensuring some kind of alcohol prevention, not allowed to drive (ever again), would be punishment, along with a fat paycheck to you...
other than that... jail is a really really really bad place... I volunteered in youth prisons years ago... and a few adult prisons... that place does not help curb any problems in society.

Drunk drivers ARE a threat to society. Drunk drivers that mow down pedestrians and cyclists and leave them for dead, alone, in the middle of the street, to die ARE a threat to society.
I have not spoken or made contact with this driver but I know exactly who he is where he lives his property his history his blog his dealings in politics his conections to city hall his vacation home his facebook his blog..... TRUST me. My lawyer made contact and everything is in progress. It all started with getting the plate and DJwheels. It's going to end with me getting money from his insurance company.
I know jail sucks. It should. People should do what they can to avoid it. The fact that this guy had no priors doesn't make me care for him at all. Ok I accept that this scumbag won't go to jail on a first offense. But I want this guy to be charged with a felony because I want him to have a difficult time finding a job and voting. That will serve notice to other would be hit and run criminals.... As it is, the hit n run crowd is getting off easy.

I guess i was more or less thinking along the lines of "change", and in my earlier posts (not too early - avoid those) ... I was talking about how the hit & run issues is nothing special to cyclist; it happens amongst drivers (as we all know), and to a high degree.
So, since it KEEPS occuring, it does not appear that our laws, consequences (the current situation) is working. I asked you about your incident because it seemed like you were talking about wanting change to occur, but it was centered (it seemed) around getting a harsher conviction.
Again, this hasnt seemed to be a deterrent for hit & runs, drinking and driving. In fact its almost paradoxical in the loose sense in which we talk about it.
1. The claim is: Drunk Drivers run, because they fear the consequences
2. We want to enforce consequences so they wont commit hit & runs
-- the two are not working together.
I wanted to highlight the issue of the insane and very saddening reality that society took in shaping land around automobiles. In conjunction with the ease and frequency of alcohol consumption in society,
Im partial to the latter. I love drinking.
there is this whole mixture of lives put together in society, where the driver, cyclist, pedestrian and alcoholic must meet. We need to work together, but clearly the amount of drivers and alcohol is not being dealt with adequately enough. Curbing situations where cars and cyclists/pedestrians HAVE TO interact, share roads is the path Im interested in.
Punishment isnt working... there has to be some real ways to curb drunk drivers... or changed the landscape in which we interact.
