Pass it on........... LBCM is happening this Friday! Meet up at the Bike Station in LB at 7pm.

This is going to be an important one. The following weekend will be the
Long Beach Bicycle Festival 2009! The festival is billing it's self as,
The event represents the launch of Bike Long Beach, an innovative plan to make Long Beach "the most cycling friendly urban city in the United States." The festival is sponsored by the Downtown Long Beach Associates, the Long Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency.
Let's see if they're saying that with feeling, yeah?

The thing is the cops will be under the watchful eyes of the city. Not only that, it sure would look bad if they misbehaved themselves right before this big event next week huh?
PLUS! Plus we have those organizations saying all those warm and fuzzy things about bikes!

LB needs a CM now more than ever! It used to have a great turnout before the cops started busting the fu*k outta it.

Violation of any provision of this Chapter is an infraction punishable by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars. (Ord. C-6322 § 3, 1986).

I learned recently that there's been a LBCM the last few months. They are meeting at the Pyramid and gathering at 730, leaving at 8pm. Seems late for a CM, but that's what they are doing.
We'll be meeting up with them at some point in the night.

yeah, as user 1 said, since the lbcm massacre a few months ago (ie most of the long beach police force in full riot gear, salivating, waiting for us to roll from bikestation, then proceeding to grab and ticket anyone they can get there hands on), a word-of-mouth lbcm started happening at the csulb pyramid to avoid harassement. why the fuck be a street lawyer? knowi'msayin?
so, probably most of the "lb riders" will be at the pyramid. but defintely would be good to have both rides meet up somewhere.
i've got user1's number, so we'll figure it out.
as far as to why lbcm moved to 730 (the late mass) about a year ago. . . it's because, ironically enough, there tends to be more traffic in the late evening hours than earlier. so, if critical mass is something to promote bicycle awareness. . . then it'd be logical to ship out when there's more cars and more people out on the street. just sayin'.

I picked up some reflective tape. I need to still pick up some red tape reflective tape. As long as people have a front and rear light tomorrow, they'll be completely legal by the time we hit the road down town.
I read all the CVC for bikes and all the LB Muni Code for bikes, and whoever got a ticket for no horn got reamed. It only pertains if you're on the side walk!

Make sure you guys have a front and rear light. You don't need a bicycle bell unless you're going to ride on the sidewalk. I have reflective tape that would make everyone legal here. The bike registration is just for local residence.

(3) A white or yellow reflector on each pedal, shoe, or ankle visible from the front and rear of the bicycle from a distance of 200 feet.
A red reflector on the rear that shall be visible from a distance of 500 feet to the rear.
A white or yellow reflector on each side forward of the center of the bicycle, and a white or red reflector on each side to the rear of the center of the bicycle.

LBCM was riding 100 strong tonite!
No cop harassment, other than some lame attempt at getting everyone to move to the right. Which lasted about 30 seconds.
Good crowd that road mostly fixies and at a pretty good pace. I would have liked to see it roll to 11:30 or so, but that's a minor complaint. Hardly any cross over from the MR crowd, which I found surprising.
I'll be back next month if anyone wants a change of scenery. Blue Line is an easy way out here.

Hardly Adam. I was just a two bit playa last night. They got their own thing going on here in LB. It's almost like finding a rare specie you never knew existed, right in your own backyard.
Does give a whole different look to the city when you're rolling big down the street though!

Any ride I can get to from my house is good for me.
Fun times "rolling big" (I love that expression, U.1) in the LBC.
