NOL Train Ridazz

I went to the Amtrak station yesterday.
I talked to the cargo check in people. They said you do need a box to check in your bike. They have plenty of boxes available. The boxes are huge. All you have to do is remove your pedals, loosen and turn the handle bars sideways. No need to take off the wheels. You do need your ticket before they will check your bike in. The cargo area is in back parking across from where you wait for Gold line, up the ramp to a large open door.
Because of the holiday, the Attendance said the train should be full.
They check you in and assign seats on a first come, first serve basis.
We will have to wait in that line in the middle of the train station that you have seen so many times before. It
The Attendant said it would be a good idea to get in line around 12:30 so that we could all get seats together. If not, I'm sure we could request seat changes as the ride progresses.
Good news is they now have leg rest on all the coach seats. This will make it so much easier to sleep. It will be like a mini lazy-boy recliner.
The rule is no personal alcohol unless you are in a sleeper at your room. The Attendant I spoke with say it all depends on the Attendant that is assigned to your car. He doesn't care, if you bring your own alcohol as long as you don't act the fool. If you do act drunk he said he would throw you off the train. I have a feeling it is like that with most of the Attendants. He suggested a small cooler if you are going to bring one, 28" x 22" x 14" is the limit for carry on bags (up to two). They may or may not have replacement ice available. Is anybody else plan on bringing a cooler?
Electrical outlets are said to be in short supply on the coach trains. The Attendant said they do have some refurbished trains with electrical outlets all over the train in coach. It is a matter of what train you get on. I'm bring a electrical strip, I would suggest someone else bring one too. It will make it easier to recharge your cell phone or Mp3 player if someone is already using the outlet or a line to use it has developed.
The Attendant said they keep the train cold :) so if you get cold easily best to layer in. some warm cloths. Bringing a light blanket is said to be a good idea. They are said to have pillows, but I'm bringing one on for extra comfort.
Also bringing anything you may need to keep your self comfortable. Food stuff, pills, drinks, games, books or whatever keeps you happy is suggested.

I have a hard time sleeping in hotel beds.
I have never been able to sleep on planes, and I rode the Amtrak red eye from Tucson last Feb. and had a very hard time sleeping, even with two seats and the foot rests.
I hope you guys are easier sleepers than I am.
Otherwise, stay up the night before and generously partake of Sexy's cooler!

Hi Stephanie
I'm bring (3) 12packs of beer. I can fit 15 of the 36 beers in my cooler.
LaHar said he would carry some on also.
1 bottle of Whisky. 2 bottles of wine.
John might bring some vodka.
Like I said it might be smart to bring what they are said to be serving
Heniken, Corona, Sam Adams, Bud, Bud light, Miller lite.
I'm also bringing a lb of each
Mixed Fancy Nuts
Raisins
Raw Sunflower Seeds
Roasted Salted Pistachios
some apples
some cut lemons and limes
Knife and a cork screw.
I would bring more, but I can only fit so much stuff in my bag.
Mark down here what snacks you plan on bringing so we don't have doubles
and we can create some inspirations for some other snacks
suggestions.....pretzels, chips. other fruits.
You might want to bring a cup or glass with you also.
It would be nice if someone else brought another cooler.
Remember we will be on this train for two days.
Bring tooth brush wash cloth (in plastic baggy), soap, patcholi, small, towel to freshin up.

Per chance, do you know if I can get hot water on the train any time I want or does the “café” or food cart or whatever have to be open?
I will call and ask but just thought that you may already have this info. I may want some hot water for my own hot “tea” at 3am and I need to make sure the fuckers can provide.
Thanks

Since the van is now leaving on the evening of the 27th, we may be getting there before the train. If we do, then I imagine we could come pick you up. It's not guaranteed, though.
It looks like the train station is about
3.5 miles from the house.

You most likely will get there before the train.
The distance is irrelevant. Its the bags, that seeks a ride.
I guess we can play that by ear.

I was planning on riding my bike then I thought about a few things:
I don’t want to get rid of the bike box then have to get the same shit all over again
i am bringing a sleeping bag AND a pillow now and I don’t have those backpacky bags that will fit these items
I don’t want to purchase those bags
My luggage will be included along with my bike in my bike box (remember there is a 50lb limit!)
The only thing I will carry is a small riding bag
I am going to call for a van shuttle from NOL to the house. I will figure out the logistics sometime this weekend as I am packing and making calls to see how much the fucker will cost.
Yupeee.
I don’t mind taking extra stuff to the house, if you want me to take your luggage I will, BUT you have to wait until my shuttle arrives to make sure everything fits in it because if it doesn’t and I am alone then I have to call ANOTHER fucking shuttle just to put your stuff in the second one. yadda yadda
