Ugh. It sounds like it was a right hook. Of course the cops would say the cyclist was at fault.

Okay. So that's this dude Freddie. Been living car-free in LA and riding fixed since 2003. That's before MR or LAfixed or any of that before you all drop the H bomb. The purple bike and white aerospokes are the colors of his favorite soccer team. He's okay, but I havent talked with him directly cause his phone is missing. He's a super rad guy and a skilled rider so I'm guessing right-hook but I have no evidence of this.
He's also over 30 and XvX which is so fucking rare I feel the need to mention it.

I commented on the LA Times blog piece by Andrew Blankstein. I doubt it will be posted.
here it is though:
What the hell is going on here?!? Talk about poor reporting and shoddy investigative work.
Of course he's a paparazzo, he had a high end camera in his bag!! DUH! Really, Mr. Whitmore?? Really, AP?? Obviously Whitmore didn't know what he was talking about and you still published it. He made some illogical statement about being a paparazzo or an avid birdwatcher...and you actually chose to print that line!!?? WOW.
Did anybody fact check this alleged "Viola 24-speed" road bike according to the "authorities" ? I couldn't find such a bike anywhere. Abici makes a purple bike called a Viola that happens to be purple, but it's a single speed? I dunno about you, but the picture from TMZ looks like it only has one gear and aside from the color looks nothing like the Abici bike.
These are the same people that concluded the collision was the cyclist's fault????
Andrew Blankstein, please learn to cover your own stories and not just copy off someone else's crappy work.
Thanks for the misinformation though.

HA they published my sub-literate comments .. and yours. And a comment from somebody named "Boe Jorfo" who appears to have plagiarized Mr. Roller's comment in full.
for the record here is my dijointed comment as it appears in the LA TImes Blog
"Do you fact check?
What is a Viola 24-Speed?
Its clear from the photos that the bike was a "fixed gear" bicycle.
If you don't even know the basic facts that are available to anybody who see the photos of the accident scene.
If you do a google for Viola 24-Speed bicycle all the searches refer back to this story.
Are there any facts in this story that have been checked against what the police have said?
Or do you just ...
The Cops Said it
We wrote it
That settles it."

I have been pissed at the LA Times for a while now for their crappy journalism. (Although I think their printed articles are still higher quality, the poop they spew online is useless faux-investigative BS.) I wanted to send the moderators a letter as well, because they have been allowing very negative, inflammatory, nonconstructive comments to be posted to a lot of articles slamming cyclists, but I knew they would never read a letter from me. They do have to read comments to moderate them, though. So I wrote my letter to the moderators in the form of an article comment. Mysteriously never got posted. At least they read it!

On further "investigation" of my own, this article wasn't published by the LA Times. It is a post on a "journalist blog" on the latimes.com domain.
I don't know how significant that is, if at all. It is still on the LA Times website and carries the LA Times banner, so I think they should take some responsibility for the material posted there. But it's not as if they actually published this themselves.

The same basic story is all over, via various blogs and the AP story.
I think the reason why it moved so quickly is that people in general despise the paparazzi as people (even though they have no problem consuming their work).
