cheap bikes

I know playa headz and other may be in search of cheap bikes.
A dude has set up shop in on the sidewalk echo/silverlake area just west of the 7/11 in Echo Park
has a decent looking steel butted mountain bike for $80, some are more some are less. He said he buy bikes back from people who take them to burning man.
Many of the bikes look very decent and make interesting project bikes.

yeah i have seen that guy...sells bikes out of the back of his van on Sunset....i ride by there once a week checking to see if he has my friend's stolen bike....
he looks like he has some nice bikes...but me...i think they are stolen

I think that might be SPY1000 old school 80's LA graffiti writer. He has a huge collection of bikes but I don't think they are stolen. He's a cool cat - well meaning dude.

I've never met him but I pass by all the time. Does he have tubes? Small things like tire levers? Or just bikes?

Ok good to know...i just get all werided out about eople having that many bikes on the side of the road...but then again...look where i come from everything i know about LA i learned from TV before i moved here thus my lack of trust LOL

I hear you. check out his collection though just to put your mind at ease. Thing is, if he stole anything it would be pretty dumb to set up shop right there in the open for all to see. I'm gonna roll by and say what's up to the man.

Its not SPY ... I know that dude.
This guys is a bit older.
I think there is much wiser places to fence a bike then out on sunset for all to see. The guy seems cool.

I had an idea to quit my job and setup a bike shop out of my van at that very spot years ago. No real overhead, and all funds would be off the IRS radar.
Dude beat me to it and I still have the same job.
My old man would have been proud of me, as when I was about 10 he asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I told him I wanted to work at a bike shop.

got 1 friend to agree to bike pool with me to school but needs bike
another friend wants me to teach her how to bike
another wants a bike so she can ride to and from school
need those cheap road bikes :D
