Stolen Back Wheel - Sunset and Fountain

So... My bike was locked up at sunset and fountain and my back wheel was stolen by two guys. it has a white rim and a flip flop hub on it - no quick release. apparently i was only 2 mins away from catching them. i know i should have locked the tires but hey who carries around a wretch? oh right everyone. including me. fuck.
if you have it please return it. in these sad economic times i can't really afford to replace it. on top of that it's my ride for the ALC too. if you see it. (see pic) feel free to either tell me or destroy it (yes i'm bitter).
The two guys were described as laughing, one tall one short, brown men. One with long hair the other with short. One with a hybrid looking bike the other on BMX. i put in a police report to the lapd after being transfered 5 times and hung up on once, but i don't expect much. lock up your tires!

Secondly, yes, something needs to be done. physical violence may not be the best idea, even if it is the swiftest. Yes stealing shit is horrible, and I'm not saying these little shits don't deserve it, however it can lead to a whole other pot of hot water for those involved.
Maybe do what the cops SHOULD have been doing when it became apparent that this is not just a couple isolated incidents, but an organized group, like stake out a bike with a camera, follow em around, find out where they are, and do things legit like. get dirt on em, and dump all their asses in county.
We know where they are, who they are and all that shit, shouldn't be too hard to get some concrete evidence.
I'm not trying to "pussy out" as eddieboy so ineloquently put it, I'm trying to be a voice of reason. Physical violence only creates a cycle. Bust their asses red handed and hand em over to the people who, unfortunately, are the only ones in this society who have the legl right to kick someones ass, but they can't do it without proof.
You want something to happen, PROVE WHO IT IS DOING THIS. We may know, but that doesnt do a drop of good in a legal sense.
Kicking the crap out of them, while it may feel rewarding, is only going to escalate things, and to be honest we don't want that. We don't want to have to worry, just because we're riding bikes, that some little shit is gonna just come out and shoot a cyclist at random to "get revenge" for the cyclists that kicked his or his buddies asses, as this sort of half baked logic is what happens when you start handing out beatdowns.
Sure, if you catch em in the act of fucking with your bike, all bets are probably off, but you'd better be careful so whatever you do doesnt come back to bite you.

I have no sympathy for em either, all I'm doing is urging a bit of caution on a PUBLIC forum.
I've said it before, someone WILL end up stomping these shits, however whoever it is needs to remember there could be consequences.
All i'm saying is, have you given any thought to the fact that the cops know who this is too, but their hands are tied by the fact that the legal system requires PROOF?
How about trying to provide some proof, 's all im sayin. I'm not sayin it has to be photos, it could be one of their dumb asses u locked to a pole next to the bike they tried to steal, whatever.
Just a beatdown is just going to make them more pig headed and violent.

i think people should really start just bringing their bikes indoors with them if possible.
you may look like like an ass but fuck it, you still have your bike.
ive noticed that most store/shop owners dont really give a shit and when they do ask you to leave it outside, just say no. theyre not gonna go through the trouble of starting an argument with you,
that seriously fucking sucks that they took ur backwheel. whenever i lock up, its always front wheel with frame. who ever thought thieves would go through the effort of wrenching off a back wheel.

I see this really nice looking bike almost every day locked up at a bus stop at wilshire and westwood....this morning it had both wheels gone but the bitchen brooks saddle is still there...
it's a green single speed with bullhorns. strange how it's always locked up when the person can take it on the bus.

Here's the solution for those of you that are "SICK OF THIS BULLSHIT!!!"
Buy a U-lock AND a cable lock and use them both to lock your bike to something immoveable and lock your wheels/seat/helmet to your bike.
No violence is necessary, you get to keep your bike, and you can save your vigilante fantasies for when Charles Bronson movies show up on cable.
This is like the 5th thread this month from somebody who locked his/her bike up ineffectively and then got something stolen.
Come on people, we're living in the second biggest city in the country during a potentially major economic crisis, OF COURSE things are going to get stolen if you leave them in a public place without securing them properly.
