Who Got Tickets Last Night?

How many riders got tickets last night?
We know Harry got one from West Hollywood Sheriffs for noise, the music trailer.
Another guy got one on Sunset and La Brea for running the red light, though 50 people ran the red light with him...he was the guy that the motorcycle cop singled out.
On the second ride the cops trying to stop people on Vermont. They got out of their car and yelled, "hey, stop", but everyone just rode on when the light turned green.
Who else? And for what?

Yeah, last night LACM and Hollywood Ridazz was the first time I've seen such behavior by the LAPD and LASD (sheriffs)
Not only were people ticketed, but we were followed, then surrounded. At Vermont and 1st, where the ride (100+) had stopped for refreshments and to regroup, the cops that had been nagging and trying to take us down, converged and surrounded. Seriously. Nine squad cars were counted, forming a half circle around us (The other half: buildings.) There was a ghettobird suspiciously, perhaps not coincidentally close hovering for a few minutes, too.
Richie spoke with one of the cops and then through the megaphone that the ride would not be running red lights, and they let us through to continue.
If we don't Storm the Bastille now, at least begin the discussion with officials, in LA, it will get much worse, and soon. Well, it probably will anyway, but let's get a little organized and stand up for our rights (LA Ridazz especially) 'cause we've got nothing to lose (except almost everything.)

I wouldn't storm the LA City Council right away. In this case the WeHo people are the ones to talk to I think. The LA City Council is pretty big time. Let's let Box et al work their connections a little bit and find out what's going on.
There is a good chance that this was the independent action of one or two officers and then they called in backup = we've seen in the past that officers have been given some discretion as to how to handle group rides in LA. Some have given us a stern "move along" instruction and some have driven on the sidewalk in order to cork for us.
I doubt this signals intent by LAPD to crack down on MR - in particular because it sounds as if the Sheriff's dept were the pissy folks. We've had problems elsewhere with the Sheriff, and if that's who is pissed then talking to the City of LA won't do anything = different people. LAPD is under federal oversight right now and not likely to take on any kind of protest movement, or anything that looks like one, right now.

There we were riding south on La Brea when an LAPD car overtook us with lights flasshing and then turned and blocked us at an intersection. They both got out of the car and the shorter one demanded to know who was the leader of the group. We all looked at each other puzzled and someone told the cop that there was no leader. He then told us there had to be a leader and if he didn't find him, he would be forced to cite everyone of us. At that point the light turned green so a few of us looked at the light and rode around him. I don't know if he got even and took it out on anyone behind us.

The "who's the leader" question was one of the funnier moments that nite. LOL I hopped up on to the sidewalk and started creeping around the car. Then the light turned green, and all the sudden everyone was speeding on by.

That "Who's the leader?" comment makes me think that the cops (at least those ones) really don't know what's going on here.

I can't say that the short and overweight officer was really the sharpest thing on two feet. He just wouldn't believe us and he told us that someone had to be the leader. He assumed we were covering up which is probably why he threatened to cite everyone. I couldn't figure out under what section of the cvc or municipal code he was going to cite us under. I guess that's why we all just left when the light turned green.
Earlier on the ride, there was the patrol car parked in a lot who told us over the PA system that we would be cited if we didn't have front and rear lights. I told him I had both but he wasn't amused. It's really tough at my age to have to deal with that much patronizing.
