WTF i can find any decent fucking rides in this city and there are bikes everywhere. i'm about to get a trailer, some speakers, and get Uncle Harry all over this shit.
If you think LAPD is bad, you have not had to deal with New York cops. Seriously, go to the NY Critical Mass.
I went to that last April (? I think, sometime in the spring anyway) when I was visiting, told ppls about MR, everyone was rather interested in the idea. Even ended up leading an after-CM ride with a few nice people that ended up being a sort of tiny MR-style ride.
Still, I can't see a 50+ person ride not getting shut down hard (arrests and beatings) 5 miles in. Which is total bullshit, seeing as how a group ride would make everything it touches safer. Yeah, it's a MUCH better idea to leave whatever few public spaces NY has to the muggers and drug dealers after dark.
Which brings up another point: NYC is kind of lacking when it comes to 7-11 parking lots. :(
But don't let this discourage you from trying. I know there are a lot of people in NY who would love to have MR rides.
been talking to some friends and it looks like a brooklyn-based ride would be the best option. everyone i've talked to is really down with the idea, so as soon as the snow thaws, it's on!
people in NY ride their bikes to commute, not for fun, haha
Times Up does a decent amount of rides, but there far from MR style party rides.
if you do a ride post about it here, i have friends in Newark/NY that would love to do a group ride. theres also a few LA Ridazz scattered across that city.
also if you want a two wheeled taste of the industrial war zone that is my former hometown, the brick city bike collective does rides sporadically
Or you could just say FUCK YOU an do it anyway. Some asshat judge says something, violates the right to peaceaby assemble (which btw is in the constitution), that shit is just BEGGING to be challenged in court.
