Alright ladies and lads... This movie's been a long time coming but now
it's to time to get your geek on!!!
We'll meet at Crank Mob Park (Canfield Ave. & Venice Blvd.) and make
a short excursion over to The Landmark at the Westside Pavillion. We'll
get there an hour or so before opening (12:01am) so that we can get
a place in the massive line that will greet us.
Watchmen is being featured in IMAX glory at the Bridge in Westchester. This was my first choice for the ride but hadn't gotten a response back from the Bridge about showtimes until now.
I'm wanting to move the ride over to the IMAX premiere (same day and time, 3.05.09 @ 12:05A), but am not sure if people have already reserved they're tickets at the Landmark.

Given that I've received a nearly non-existent response to this ride (tepid at best!), I'll update the ride details tomorrow If I don't get a response from anyone till then...

I don't think you're putting off a bad vibe. It's not you, it's us.
1. Bikers are bitter freespirited anticorporate people. (yes, that's a generalization)
2. Movie rides don't ever get planned well. The last one I think was planned by theroyalacademy to see XFiles and I don't think many people showed.
3. Cyclists don't go to the movies because their snobby asses are too busy riding bikes being anticorporate.
4. Sounds like you started some good planning though!
5. Don't lose hope in all us snobby cyclists; we're still your friends, we still like you, etc.

I remember royalacademy's post (that's what gave me the idea anyway). I also remember in that post that he mentioned not many people showing up (or did I he tell me that personally?), so I had little hope of people showing up to begin with.
I just posted the ride in the hope that the small sliver of people who were going to see the movie anyway might consider going to it by the best means possible... by bike!!!
I'm not really disparaged by posts like Candy Cane. I've met her before, so can understand where she is coming from...
In fact, I'm really never go to movies... Other than independent movies or documentaries (Bike Film Festival!!!) I've only seen two in the past three years (300 and Dark Knight)...
So given the rarity of the act (plunking $13 for a movie) I'd thought I mix some cycling in with other people, to lessen depression of that very act (plunking $13 for a movie)...

Indeed it does seem quite hyped, although I'm very ignorant to its real extent since I don't what TV, listen to commerical radio, or go to movies regularly...
You know to best way to know if it's good or not is to actually see it... (yeah, I know...duh... but, I can't help suggesting)

This scene from a documentary about Alan Moore called "Mindscape of Alan Moore" REALLY made me want to buy the graphic novel and read it (which I did)... I saw this months before I found out about the movie.
This scene is of course taken word for word from a series of panelsfrom the original graphic novel...
Alan Moore does a FAR better Rorschach in this scene than the current actor in the new watchmen movie who does the exact same scene is some movie preview that I saw...
"Mindscape" is a fucking awesome documentary by the way...
Yeah, I'm coming from the outside of hype too... I only know of the Watchmen graphic novel from a roommate and only found out about the film through wikipedia...
I can understand the wariness though of those who are unfortunate enough to be exposed by the channels of hype and seeing something like my ride on MR.
Graphic... which was nice
Long... part of the fan boy in me appreciated that,
other aspects (like my attention) did not
Roscharch... always good
Flashy editing (slow motion/speed ups)... sometimes
worked sometimes didn't
It was alright... although there Roscharch that was
not fully exploited to dramatic effect in the movie like
it was in the graphic novel. In fact it was totally changed
into something cheaply violent, instead of sinisterly
disturbing like it was in the graphic novel.
Fanboy in me wins out though... The novelty of seeing the
live action version of this graphic novel was fulfilling enuff
for me.
I may need translation, not being in the know of the novel - But, it sounds as if you enjoyed it. I might venture out to see it after the crowds dwindle.
