THE NEW RIDE TYPE G

This, our 7th ride, is going to be absolutely epic. We're going to a store first to get our *stuff* then ride straight to Griffith Park, where we'll begin riding up to the observatory. Then we continue on up, using a few trails and roads, to the top of Mount Hollywood. The view from the top gives you a 360 degree of the entire LA area -- from the tip of the valley, to long beach, to Pasadena, to Catalina island. This spot being our main destination, we party up there for a while, then ride allllll the way back down, through the famous Griffith Park tunnel and back down to into Hollywood. We'll stop for late-night munchies at pink's hot dogs and then return to the start at pan pacific.

The ride post says it is a mom ridazz sponsored event. Does that mean there will be free 420? or free stolen freakbikes?
Haha
Just kidding. You have some good ideas and I like your spirit. Hopefully my old ass will make it out one night to your ride.

oh foldie, very cheeky....
@superblue, i believe griffith "closes" at 10 not sure about weekends though. Last time the passage ride went up there we got followed by the park rangers even though we all turned off our lights and hada ride by moonlight. it was pretty fucking awesome doing the dirt trails, yet scary and in the end they caught up to us and baisically asked the group of less than 10 to leave. I dunno how cool park rangers would be if a big group went all up there. Just sayin...

foldie -- whoever wants to smoke on the ride gets smoked out by me if they ask. hope to see you there
gizzard -- that sounds troubling. i also know that the griffith park coyote ride used to come up there once a month, and i've done a ride with 4 guys after ten, heading onto a trail in front of rangers next to the observatory...... but there would be considerably more people than that.... i dunno, we'll just have to hope for the best and if we get asked to leave, we'll get out and enter the park from another entrance :]

Bikes are officially allowed until 10:30, I think. That's what I've been told by park rangers, anyway.
I've been kicked out of the park 4 or 5 times and never been ticketed. I actually don't know anyone who's gotten a ticket up there yet, but apparently if they do ticket you, it's a misdemeanor and not just an infraction.
On one Ride-Arc, the park rangers stopped us (a group of maybe 25) at the pass after we had come up the north side of the park, and they basically just gave us a warning when we acted completely oblivious and told them that we were "just training for the AIDS ride." While we were waiting for the stragglers to make it up the hill, one of the rangers talked about his road bike for a while, and then they escorted us down through the tunnel to Vermont.
Mind you, on our way up, we had ridden right through a filming of Mad Men (to the great annoyance of the set security guards and the great delight of the crew, a couple of whom actually yelled "Midnight Ridazz!" as we passed by). Anyway, the rangers had been called out to deal with us, so they had plenty of reason to be annoyed. But even then, they didn't ticket us. They mostly seemed to care about whether we were drinking or not. It sounded like they gave out a few tickets a month to people who came into the park at night to drink. So there's that to consider.
I think that for the most part, the rangers would rather not deal with writing tickets, so just try to look as clueless and harmless as possible if you do run into them.

if we can get into the park up onto the trails with our lights off before 10:30 then maybe we shouldn't have a problem? we'll just have to see
