Hello. So Im new to posting almost new to riding. Went on my first group ride in Burbank a few weeks ago. I dont know if this subject has been brought up before. As I was reading the ride calendar and someone joined the site 5/7/10 and posted for the first time, a ride tonite, chill pace, beer, weed, party afterwards. And didnt post a route. It seemed very sketchy for some reason. I felt like I was going to get robbed halfway through the ride. I was just wondering if Im just paranoid about other people or is it something I should be aware of? Thanks for the input.

Trust your gut.
There are enough ongoing rides that are well-run and fun that if you get a bad vibe from one you're not familiar with, you've got other options. If you hear that the ride you missed is a good one, there's always next time.

every ride is different from another, and it's not always obvious in the ride post what kind of ride it is. live and learn.

I go on Monday Night Rehab, very safe ride.
Critical Mass and the Glow Ride are also very safe but large rides.
And tonight is the Spoke N' Art Ride, not many young kids, more adults with stops at art galleries (they have wine and cheese and other goodies) with a party at the meetup at the end of the ride. It's a very nice ride and I'm going tonight.a
I've been on the Saturday Night Pizza ride in NoHo, also a great ride.
So is the SFV Ride, that is a lot of fun! Some of these rides are monthly so keep an eye out, and MNR is every Monday night.
Good luck!

The best thing to do as a noob is to learn the "rules" of riding in a large group and hit up some of the bigger rides and MAKE FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that way you can choose first hand on who you wanna trust.

the pizza ride was one month's ride/theme on the "SFV ride", not a separate ride like you always seem to be mentioning.
juuuuuussstt so you know :p

You must forgive her: she recently filled the void of "Resident Know-It-All" when the position opened up.
