Hello, we're working with a group of artists and cyclists to renew/kickstart an LA leg of the the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR*)-- which is an international celebration/protest against both body shame and oil dependency. LA has been dormant for over 4 years, and it's high time we bring it back!!
The ride is scheduled for Saturday, June 12th to coordinate with the naked bike rides going on in over a hundred major cities across the world.
We are beginning to meet THIS WEEK(!) to establish a route, plan pre-ride body/bike decorating parties, and a post-ride event. We will be collaborating with all of LA's cycling networks, artist collectives, and any other organization that shares our causes: body pride and oil independence!
We have a deep respect for the organization, safety, and success of the Midnight Ridazz network, and would love any and all involvement from experienced Midnight Ridazz to help us plan the route, notify the City, promote/recruit riders, and administer the ride.
We're shooting for 2,000 nude (or semi-nude) riders to help represent LA to the WNBR for the first time in 4 years. It's going to be a memorable day to say the least. Contact us ASAP to get on board!
Honestly, if I had witnessed a bunch of mentally ill exhibitionists riding nude on bikes I would have never bought a bike and started commuting by bike.
This will seriously backfire and do nothing to garner the respect of drivers, or win them over to the cause of cycling.
This has been going on for years. You have a right to your own opinion, but like most of your posts, they are lacking in foundation. Some day you would think your opinion would be the variety of the informed kind.

not everything is to 'win' drivers over to become bikers.... most of them will not cross over to bike regardless of what we do.......this is like saying if you saw a group of drunk drivers driving on a road you never would have started driving. drivers seeing naked people riding bikes would not just suddenly have made them decide not to ride a bike......i dont even understand that logic
and how dare you call body pride activists mentally ill exhibitionists..... these ideas go back to the hippie/free love movements of the 60's..... just because you aren't comfortable enough with your body to be naked around others doesn't mean you need to insult the ones who would find this interesting.......... this could be a really fun event
I agree 100% with superblueman3. Can you tell me what *exactly* makes being naked analogous to being mentally ill or "sick"? And does this mean that you get crazy every time you take a shower? Or...are you permanently clothed so as to keep all your mental properties intact?

Your puritan ways are so archaic and flawed that there's really no need to even respond to your posts. Your original reply looks almost exactly like one of your very first responses on this here message board when informed of a "naked" ride happening on April Fool's day.
This site, and the Midnight Ridazz in general, are here to promote peace and unity through cycling. We do not discriminate or exclude anyone or their ideas of a good time. Please be respectful towards others if you wish to garner the same in return.
PS. You were born without clothes as was everyone else before you. The concept of clothes only came into prominence roughly 70,000 years ago. This is based on some ingenious DNA detective work based on the evolution of body lice:
Humans have been around for roughly 200,000 years on this planet so this means we've been naked a lot more than we've been clothed. Please do some research.
You know exactly what I mean, get over your self righteous selves, there are other people to be mindful of, the word does not revolve around you.
We live in a society where people need to respect others and that means following the accepted social norms of modestly and decorum; if you don't like it then move to the jungle and run around naked all you like.
and how dare you call body pride activists mentally ill exhibitionists..... these ideas go back to the hippie/free love movements of the 60's....
actually this mentality dates back to ancient Greece and i refuse to believe that they were mentally ill exhibitionists... or at least not all of them. I'm not about to get into the customs of ancient Greece though, but seriously the US is way too uptight about shit...
I am boycotting any ride you have any realm of influence over from here on out. I would not even consider you as part of the midnight ridazz as you don't seem to share our views. Go back to whatever forum you came from and leave this awesome site full of awesome people alone.

"if you don't like it then move to the jungle and run around naked all you like. "
that's a sad way to view the nude body. This is a pretty diverse place that we live in, it would sure be boring if we all followed the same old life style.

dude as much as i'd love to agree with you i totally disagree with this comment
you don't seem to share our views>...
i feel the beauty of MR is to have a variety of point of views yet be respectful and open to each one. That's what i've experienced on most rides. regardless of race, class, education, sex, etc. and bikes are what brings us all together.
whether we agree with someone or not, it's part of the community.
@Girlpower. seriously dude... you are entitled to your opinion but maybe if you didn't come off so abrasive maybe people would be more inclined to care and/or listen to you.

Agreed. After all, why does *other people* getting naked bother you so much? If you don't want to be around them, don't. If you don't want to go on that ride, don't. It's the beauty and glory of individual/personal decision making. Go on the rides/be with the people who make you happy.
Bikekowski, you rule --> 10 points to anyone who rides on June 12th in a tube sock. I will try to book us a funky band to cover some RCHP for us at the finish line.
To everyone else, thanks for picking up the dialogue on this. Even negative comments are useful as we'd like this to be an event that everyone can get behind.
Please note: this is not an exclusively 'nude' ride and we encourage everyone to come represent for cyclist rights, with any level of exposure. However, if you are on the fence, this is a great opportunity to let loose and smash some inhibitions in the safety of numbers and for a great cause.
We are meeting this week to get you some hard details, including the tentative Route, pit-stops, Pre-Ride body/bike decorating parties, and our Post-Ride festivities. We'd love it if any of you joined our logistics sessions - contact: insemilllation@gmail.com
I care about cycling, and I don't wish cyclists to come off as a bunch of anti-social freaks. And that is exactly what this nude ride is promoting, cycling as anti-socialism to promote biking and it will backfire. End of story. You can call me prude all you want, it won't change the truth.
Moments like CM and Cycle Chic are doing a lot more to promote cycling as an alternative than a bunch of exhibitionists who think that unless you want to look at their naked asses on bikes you're a prude. Give me a freaking break!
seriously why you gotta be so stubborn?
Please do some research on world naked ride, it's been going on for years. and I dont see other ppl bitching.
"And that is exactly what this nude ride is promoting, cycling as anti-socialism to promote biking and it will backfire. End of story. You can call me prude all you want, it won't change the truth." Wow so its a fact now?

Your comments are all off base. CM doing a lot to promote cycling? If anything, it's giving it a black eye of sorts, at least here in Los Angeles, where the actual spirit of the whole movement has been lost.
How dare you judge what's anti-socialism behavior, especially when they are birthed within your belief system. Shame on you.
I, as well as plenty others here agree with you, but if she wants to seclude herself FURTHER from the community, as opposed to embrace it, then let her. Don't forget what this thread is about... not someone whining and bitching... its about World Naked Bike Ride LA - 2010...
let her push her self righteous agenda else where...

girl power you are wrong. i have been on a world naked bike ride, i know how people react to it. stop being so ashamed of your body. current social norms have created this terribly shallow culture that worships a fake unhealthy beauty. everyone is ashamed of their body and many people to develop mental illnesses such as bulimia and many more waste thousands on cosmetic surgery. im glad that is all part of your view of "girl power" but i however will be stark naked riding a bike next month showing everyone its socially acceptable to be comfortable with your own body.
All I know is that if I saw a bunch of insecure exhibitionists on bikes then I never would have bought a bike and started riding, I would rather spend $$$ on gas - global warming be dammed! - than be associated with you weirdos! LOL
Sorry, but I'm right and I'm not backing down on this. I think that what you guys are planning is incredibly disrespectful to communities, to families and to children.
There are nudist colonies where you're more than welcome to be naked, as are we all. I hope you guys get arrested and put in jail.
And it will only enrage motorists against cyclists even more.
You can insult me all you want, but I'm not the pervert here, you are! *waves*
Which reminds me; never sit on another person's bike! LOL
You have the right to be nude in public at nudist colonies, just like people have the right to be clothed elsewhere, if you don't want your rights taken away then don't take away ours. *waves*

Oh, and we need someone with great photoshop skills to crop her face and put it on some naked body. Doesn't matter the gender. Put a black background on that sucker, with the white trim inches inside going around the frame and a few wise words at the bottom. Anyone up for the challenge? Maybe Junu?
Now THAT... is an awesome idea. But I wouldn't recommend it as self-righteous conservative know-it-all might call upon her local and state representative, as well as her lawyer, and bog you down with years and years of legal mumbo-jumbo and costing you more than the $50 it took to make the spoke cards.
Again, you have it twisted, ignoramus. Not all people are doing it for "shock" value or to promote their rights as human beings, or whatever else you want to bring into this equation. Is it so hard for you to understand that some people just enjoy their bodies and feel comfortable riding around in them? You seriously are the worst person to have come into our lovely community. Take your bigotry elsewhere and leave us alone! LOL!!!
"how insecure do you have to be to be naked in front of a bunch of people"
well, i'll tell you from experience, you gotta have some balls, NOT LITERALLY. when you are nude in public for a little while it's scary and yeah folks are shocked by themselves and people are shocked by us and our nude friends. big ol shock party. then an hour or two goes by and it is an out of body experience. no hippy bull intented but jeez, i felt free and powerful and held my poster straight and laughed a bunch and when it got cold i put my clothes back on and i thought about the hole night as i rode home with clothes on and i never felt so secure, confident and proud in my life. those are the things you should feel in a life time! so here i am again advocating this ride. if you have never been nude in public it will help you experience another side to you that you don't need to talk about, don't need to feel bad about and certainly don't need to talk shit about if you have not tried it. all sizes colors and ages. it's the epitome of openness, realness, and courage. AHEM MAYBE SOMETHING WE NEED MORE OF IN SOCIETIES.
ohhh... so this is what spawned the Attn: girl power
But I'm gonna agree with Girl Power... you're all a bunch of freaks if you want to see her naked. And yes, you hipster bike riding people...you're all insecure... you're so insecure about your lack of fashion sense, that you're afraid to wear your clothes.
You know what, why not just go all out and ditch the bikes? Just get a parade of exposed flesh and bad tattoos going. Wanna get natural? Get rid of your steel bike made in a factory, and assemble your own Bamboo creation. Get seriouzz about the nudezz!
We are on for June 12th --> here are the tentative details with some bonus options thrown in:
STARTING LOCATION: Echo Park Lake; Glendale Blvd X Park Ave
STARTING TIME: 4PM
*TENTATIVE* ROUTE: Figure 8 loop of Silverlake junction+reservoir and downtown: *contact us for a google maps link. We will also post the finalized route the night before the ride, the route is 10-13 miles, contains mild hills, a few extended inclines. Our test rides taken at a very mild pace clocked in at 1:18. We've designed this route for safety, tasteful exposure to modern and classic LA landmarks, and for accessibility -- nobody will be left behind.

WE NEED RIDE LEADERS to help us manage intersections and be a confident presence for less experienced riders. I know you're out there!
We're keeping the exact route undisclosed until the event date --> I can tell you know that it's going to be a 10-13 mile loop of Silverlake and Downtown with some pitstops.
Get stoked! and help us spread the word

after reading most of your posts on this thread I declare an epic fail on your part. If you don't agree thanks perfectly fine but please do not insist that your opinion is fact. However nudity is normal (fact) and we were born that way (fact) and due to social norms we are taught to feel shame(fact). That mindset is a waste (Opinion) and those who feel otherwise possible have strong feelings of shame and feel self conscious and uncomfortable with their bodies (opinion). Do you understand how opinion and facts work now? I hope so....
There is no greater opportunity nor group of people that I would want to be naked with, I'll see everyone there. *Happy Birthday to me*
We've confirmed two very generous people to donate their yards in Echo Park for our Pre-Ride, which is looking to be an all day affair starting as early as noon on Saturday (ride leaves at 4pm - don't be late!)
We are now opening a call for artists to help us man body art booths for the riders who come to the pre-ride --> the more experienced, the better, but anyone willing to paint some bodies should respond. Our goal is to get some serious art displayed on the bodies of some of our riders.
Everyone is super-stoked for this ride. Please R.S.V.P. to our facebook event to get udpates like the Pre-Ride locations and the Route: http://www.facebook.com/anthony.ferrara2#!/event.php?eid=129066633771110&ref=mf
THIS SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we're getting some veteran World Naked Bike Riders from Chicago, SF, and a few San Diego recruits coming out of the wood work.
Again the ride is this Saturday, June 12th.
Depart is still 4pm -- exact address to be announced. Check back here or join our facebook guest-list: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129066633771110
WNBR Pre-RIde is now 1pm-4pm at a private yard in Echo Park, a few blocks from TAIX --> which is a great place to watch the World Cup Game (England vs USA at 11:30 am - 1:30pm).
There will be space to body paint, limber up, you know the drill.
Heart on Productions has just confirmed 5 artist to body paint as many riders as they can manage in the Pre-Ride.
If you want to get painted, please bring non-toxic paint and a smile. We will be providing some paint as well, but you never know.
Also, we are still looking for photographers, videographers, some TALL BIKES!! and some SOUND BIKES!! you guys rock, and you know who you are, so save the date THIS SAT, JUNE 12TH!!
Also, note that you don't have to ride nude, but you'll probably have a lot more fun if you do --> the testimonials from other cities are inspiring, check out the clip from the movie they made:
Cinema Secrets in Burbank seems to be the consensus as the best/cheapest source-- I'm going tomorrow and I'll let you know specific brands if you'd like them, otherwise just pop in to their store and ask one of the people there, they have a great staff.
Get stoked, this is going to be an awesome route with a great Pre-Ride.
aww tell her to not be so tuck up...ahhhhh see waht i did there.. haha.
my junk doesnt know about the vinyl saddle im riding on either.... whatever this is gonna be fun

Had to update -- we went out and promo'd the artwalk last night and holy sh*t there are a lot of people jazzed about coming to this ride. About half the people we talked to had already heard of it, half of them again are for sure coming out and the rest of them signed up for info.
All in all we are expecting HUNDREDS (200 to 300+) of riders. We need some ride leaders to share our route with (which will remain unpublished). If you are an experienced rider with halfway decent street cred (a.k.a. not affiliated with LAPD) and you are planning on coming out -- Please let us know so we can send you our link and help increase the number of route stewards we have on the ride. You will not be held responsible for the ride, we just want more people to know the exact route without publishing it.
Totally aside from the main argument, but if I saw lots of people riding nude, it would make me want to ride a bike more, not less. But that's just me.
This ride really took it home. Yes it was like a rebirth!
The vibe was great, everybody was respectful and cool about the whole thing. It felt and reminded me of BikeSummer 2005.
People in cars and on the street where smiling and happy to wait.
Most of the cops we past smiled too. (unfortunately we had one complaint at little pocket park off the river path in Frog Town.) BTW the repave of the river path in that area is excellent.
luis your soundsystem would make BigBikeDan blush and your underroos with matching gym bag rocked.
ROTW = all the ridazz who made it out to this. Especially B-Rad, Michelle Apple and Taromonster, you take pride in keeping the clothes off. Fabulous to have ridden with you all today.
Can't wait til the next World Naked Bike/Taromonster Birthday Ride ;)
and yes it's really fun to ride naked, and my ass was the least sore it has ever been after any ride.
I thought about taking the day off to do this, but then I realized I was running low on anti-anthropophogy injections.
Last thing we needed was cycli 'el mignon.
These raw flesh withdrawals are giving me sleepless days.
Haha thanks sexy.
And the breeze was the best.
And the new pavement is a
very great improvement to f.town's bike path.
and just a thought,They should be a ninja turtle ride
or even just a ninja ride haha
If bike riders rode nude in a Los Angeles summer solstice celebration, the LAPD would shoot them dead, after a "slow speed" chase televised on all 28 local channels.
People dis-roped at a level that they where comfortable with. Some stay in their underwear, some got completely naked after the start of the ride and some put their clothes back on when they felt it was necessary. The best part is there was no judgment and especially no negativity.
Reading all the negativity on this board makes me realize the reason this ride was so great was more about who wasn't on the ride then who was on the ride.
Thanks again to the organizers and my fellow naked riders. This was a special day for L.A. and I could not have imagined it going any better.
To those who have not had the opportunity to ride your bike naked, you better do it. Even if it's in the dark, when no one can see you (in fact that might be better ;) It is like swimming naked, but better, obviously, because you're riding a bike! Talk about the wind on your face--imagine it everywhere!

Amazing ride! I was so nervous showing up in my bikini but after ten minutes riding around with this crowd I could have easily gone nude. I might do it next time if I have the forethought for a mask, not too stoked on having nudie pics of me online.
Everyone was SO friendly I didn't feel shy in the least, and ironically I met a lot more people on this ride than any other I've been on. I'm still high off of the good vibes from this weekend! Can't wait for next year!
"
Hey who seen the Guy by the shelters pull his pants down?
Haha that was cool."
hahahah yes i saw that it was HILARIOUS
the naked bike ride was AWESOME...
When you guys left the starting location.. I didn't go down the street with you guys for a good minute, and then realized oh crap.. i'm not sure where you guys went... and then another cyclist came up next to me and asked if i was part of hte naked ride, i said yea let's go together and try to catch up to them...
we went solely by word of mouth from people on the streets, asking them if they saw a bunch of naked bicyclists.. and everyone would be like they went THAT WAY hahaha.. and if we passed by a street we were supposed to turn on, people would yell at us to turn back, hahaha.. we didn't catch up to the ride until you guys were deep into downtown.
that was really tight, if it was any other ride, catching up would have been impossible, it really made for an amazing day. SO MUCH LAUGHTER, we brought a lot of joy and smiles to people going through even skid-row, hahah
do you guys remember that enraged black woman in the black cadillac calling us perverts when we were blocking the road? hahahah omg that was golden
