Lighter??? I guess thats what you get when you follow trends. The use G609 Aluminum from China and make them lighter than a rim with 6mm less dish. Thinning aluminum can cause rims to split at higher tire pressures. Even companies like Zipp give maximum pressure ratings. Now this does not include the increased pressure as you create heat and while shidding. Heat+increasing tire pressure+stress from a skid=FAIL.

This is not the first person to really question the integrity of these rims. I have heard you can sqeeze the side of the rim and fell it flex? They are kinda like the Dia Compe tires. They are awesome if you want to put them your bike on the wall and look at it. When it comes to function, they are the worst tires I have ever ridden for any kind of distance. I have about 50 miles on a set of hot pinks and have had 6 flats. I can put a new tube in on a ride, however I cannot weld a rim back together. That is untill I build a welding trailer to go behind my bike.

those rims exploded like that because he bunnyhopped down a three stair, not because he went into some epic skid. the blog owner is a straight up clown for trying to fool everyone otherwise.

I have seen this happen just by infalting a tire on a rim to 145 psi. I would not doubt for a second that this happened from a skid. These rims are light for what they are. Even the older Campagnolo Shamal's, Vento's and Zonda's from the late 90's with this type rim profile, all weigh more than these. I hve talked with a guy who built some up and he said they are very very thin even at the spoke holes. He said as he was building he was concerned about pulling a spoke through while he was finishing tensioning them.

@RBI Why would he post a huge lie on the blog????

they had to make the campy rims heavy because they were super-low spoke count, all of those low spoke count rims are kinda overweight

I had a set of the Vento's because the Shamal's in 12 spokes for the rear, would flex and rub my brakes. The Vento's had 16 and were more stable for my 175lbs

all the kids from japan who ride track bikes on the street do so in day glo neon clothes and ride them like bmx bikes. they use parts intended for racing and aerodynamics to do x games shit. anyway, theres this to read.

this is my response on the prolly blog. But I see he has yet to approve it.
I high doubt this rim snapped in half by itself causing the inner tube to be cut. I'm leaning towards the fact that it must be some outside force as you can see the sidewalls are clearly dented.
anyways here is the response.
"There has been no official H Plus Son reply as we have yet to see the rim in person.
The "official reply" that people are posting, is in fact a few weeks old, and is not a response to this rim.
Prolly the rim isn't half the weight of a Deep V, they are about the same: 580 grams.
The tire well of these rims is made to the same specs as the many other road rims we manufacture. They are 0.8, plus or minus 0.1 mm
We are a new brand. But the factory has been making rims for the past 10 years. We make about 6-7 million rims each year and about 2 million of them are double walled.
We don't want to piss anyone off, nor do we want to push responsibility onto someone else. But please we think there needs to be more investigation into the real problem of this before pushing the blame onto one party.
We have asked for the customer to send us their address and phone number and a representative will go and inspect the rim.

You can see from this picture that the force of a exploding inner tube is huge. This is a posting someone else did on a different blog relating to this issue. These are mountain bike rims mind you.

I don't get it. This guy did all the right things. Aero front wheel, pink paint job, of course no brakes, hell he's even hanging out in front of some trendy donut shop! Yet this crap happens to him. Oh the irony.

BTW, there's no way in hell that you can build up anywhere close to the amount of heat needed to have this rim fail in skid. That rim would be unsafe at any speed if that was the case. Sounds appealing huh?

@RBI Those MTB rims you have linked are also eyeleted rims which would help keep the rim together from that crack. Those rims also have alot of dirt in them=ridden alot. Add that to the fact that a 2.0+ MTB tire + tube flat has more cusion for the rim itself when this happens. The H+son's were about 2 weeks old according to the blog. The dent in the side of the rim that H+son talks about could have happened with the sudden loss of air pressure while skidding to a stop. This would mean the area in question was being used to skid stop on the rim now. He most likely added that dent durning an abrupt stop on that section of rim which at that breif moment in time was being used effectively as his brakes.

@ Jonnyboy I love that you care. I know I post that all the time. I am out of town for a week or so. We can plan a ride around the H+son rim failure topic if you would like. This post is about bikes and riding, not like I am selling some AIR JORDANS for my first post eva. SO BACK OFF, or lets go ride!

@User1 I know that much heat cannot be produced by a skid. however add the side forces of high pressure+skid+heat could add to the rim being quite light for its depth in a failure situation.

We could post "when is this ride" updates in every thread!!!!!!! I do get sick of the drama and random Zhit on here. When I come to look for a ride post and its like 2 pages back because someone read an article about how their favorite brand of novelty lighter is going out of business.
