Fed up with some cyclists.

I am a cyclist, I ride a damn lot, I own several bikes and ride the rides now and again. There is one thing some cyclists do that annoys the shit out of me.
If you ride a fixie, you look retarded when you ride on the sidewalks. Really, your thrill seeking enough not to have a damn brake on the bike, but you can'T manage to handle the heat of traffic on Vanowen? Really? Oh, and in addition, you also need to stop doing track stands on the sidewalk corners waiting for the walk signal.
carry on. Just had to let that out.

Those are not cyclists, just people with bikes. You just have to ride and let ride.

It bothers you just because they don't look good?
Yes, II do get annoyed at people riding the sidewalks. I feel they are not representing that riding the streets is doable and practical. It is also stupid because it is dangerous for pedestrians. So I do get that aspect of your peeve.
What I'm really fed up with are cyclists that ride on the WRONG side of the street into oncoming traffic. I see it everyday on my work commute. And that is not because it looks retarded, it's because it IS retarded!
The whole hipster fixie style thing is a waste of time if you ask me. I'm not impressed at all by it, but people can due what they want. But I just can't stand it if someone is riding the wrong side of the street!!! I let them know about it too.
If you are reading this and you do this shit -

That was the *one* thing that made me want to leave the LACM ride the other day...the sheer number of clearly suicidal Darwin Award folks doing *exactly* that..not to draw attn off the main idea of this thread, as I'm NOT a fan of sidewalk-riding either.

I hate walking.
but there is the rare occasion I walk (if i have to got to the XYZ two blocks away, and it is quicker than blaa blhah blhah)
and folks are riding on the side walk.. I dont really mind if it is that dude or gal on their way back from working at what ever job they dont get enought respect at - and they are goinbg as fast as i can jog.
But when it is a pack of fit kids fing fixed or singl speed no break, i tell them TAKE THE FUCKING LANE.
there are little kids that dart out of no where. bikes should not be riding around them. there are also old poeple who dont have the dexterity. that is why bikes are by layw supposed to be on the street.
public shame the sidewalk bikers. thats what i do.

@ sause: I think the fad of having a fixed gear mis fade off, but in my town - k town - i dont see that happening soon. and the ridazz we roll with are so far off with those that ride bike on sidewalks that i dont think, no we are not capable, of having any influence on. because they come out of the wood work,
@ someone: maybe I am am just some hipstper. i admitted it, therefore i am not. i just like to smoke parlements. wiskey is nice. im over american spirits - hair flip. pbr burp. i like to ride my fixie, but i will ride the lemond on the ride my dad pays the fee for this weekend.
also, fuck the police, but i am nice to them when i get in cointact, and it is effective because i am white.

Saw a kid who couldn't have been older than 11 riding his fixie on the sidewalk on Ventura. It was obvious he was just scared to be in the street. It was actually really cute.

Regardless of our attempts at mental evolution we tend to prejudge people based on appearances. Hence, it is natural to suspect that others are doing the same of us.
This often leads to tendency, to judge harshly, those most similar to us, for fear that their actions will determine how we are perceived by others.

what makes a cyclists a cyclists?
I ride a fixed track bicycle... my cousin rides a fixed track bicycle and commutes from torrance to hollywood, glendale, and el sereno everyday... my brother also rides a fixed track bicycle from north hollywood to glendale everyday....
what is the difference from someone riding a fixed gear doing a track stand and someone doing a track stand on a road bicycle? I've seen that, which is amazing on a road bicycle...
I thought the object of this was for people to ride bicycles in general...not just the bicycles you guys do not appreciate, like or choose....
I agree that people on fixed gear bicycles and everyone for that matter needs to continue working on riding safe in a large group. As for the 11 year old, shouldn't we be happy that he is riding a bicycle and not at home doing nothing... maybe in 5 years this kid will be racing at state levels....

You sound like one of those drivers that blames cyclist for everything. The fact is that people do what they want. The only recourse it to help by educating and get the word out on how to ride correctly. Which is on the streets and not here. Here you are just preaching to the choir.

I think you focused on the word, "fixed gear" as if it was an attack/ criticism at those whom ride fixed gear. Which was not the issue of the original poster.
He only made the comment that, those who "don't have brakes" which would only be a few BMX & Fixed are daredevils simply for the sake of riding the thing.
Poster, was more focused on individuals riding on the sidewalk.
If I got this wrong, please correct me as I am trying to work on my reading comp.

hmmm, you have a valid point that the original author of this thread may not have been attacking fixed gear riders.... and I can not speak for the author of this thread... and i may have only focused on certain statements that are usually associated with fixed gear riders...
the author mentions.... "ride a fixie, you look retarded when you ride on the sidewalks,"... this may seem to be attacking fixed gear riders and fixed gear riders that ride on the sidewalks and later the original author mentions.... the original author did not mention those BMX or Mountain cyclists that perform stunts to fulfill their thrill seeking rush... the author mentions only "Fixie"
"you also need to stop doing track stands on sidewalk corners waiting for the walk signal"... once again, something associated with fixed gear riders...
other comments made by other MR users continued to make me believe it was something against fixed gear riders when they continue to say it is a fad... that they wanted to leave LACM because of all the Fixed gear riders....that fixed gear riders are not cyclists... and that is why I asked what is a cyclists? is it speed? endurance and distances traveled? spandex? commuter? how many bicycles someone owns?

No. You misread my statement. I actually don't care *what* you ride, fixie, tricycle, blah blah blah. Just ride. I wanted to leave LACM because of all the kids who were traveling the wrong way into traffic. I'm not a fan of being on a super fun ride on a lovely Friday night and watching humans die, so I was thinking about taking off.

Theres ONE thing, SOME cyclist do... and it still got you this worked up?
If you ride a fixie, you look retarded when you ride on the sidewalks.
What if you ride a Townie? Or a tandem? Litespeed? Or is this only for fixie riders?
Really, your thrill seeking enough not to have a damn brake on the bike, but you can'T manage to handle the heat of traffic on Vanowen?
Oh, wait, so is this even more narrowly about BRAKELESS fixie riders? So fixie riders WITH brakes are cool, right?
Oh, and in addition, you also need to stop doing track stands on the sidewalk corners waiting for the walk signal.
Cool, "AND", it just gets more specific.... good thing you didn't forget to mention that point.
So, in short, to the few riders on brakeless fixie bikes, who ride on the sidewalk(s) and track stand on sidewalk corners while waiting for the walk signal: that shit annoys thegodofthor.
Got it?

Then we'll see the true Ridazz.
Are you referring to cycling in general or riding a fixed gear bike?
What are true Ridazz?
People who ride (____) miles a day / week/ month/ year
People who ride a (____) bike (e.g. mountain, road, cross, etc)
People who have all the "correct" opinions about bike culture?
A person who has set a standard for a true Ridazz, which coincidentally qualifies the said person as a true rida?
Keep in mind some of the strongest riders drive fancy cars. Some of the weaker riders do not drive at all. Some ride strong and only ride.
True ridazz? Is this really a person worth qualifying?

To respond to your question, "What are true Ridazz?"
People who ride their bikes, regardless of what kind they are, how many gears, seats, handlebars, etc.
Simply for the pure Enjoyment of riding. Whether it's fast, slow, up hills, downhills.
I'm only making a criticsm of those individuals who choose to ride a bicycle because it's become a trend.
Perhaps in doing so, joining the band wagon, they find why Ridazz ride && become one themselves.. Pehaps I'm using the term "Ridazz" a bit loosely. But when I found & entigrated myself with this community. It wasn't because of the fixed gears. It was because of the community, experiences, people, and love for each other and bicycles.
Not for the image you are portraying when choosing to ride a fixed gear, road bike, tandem, or with w/e components or what kind of rims they are.
I think that's what makes a rida a rida.
Just for the enjoyment of riding.

I just hate all you cyclists.... DRIVE YOUR CAR!!!!
but in all seriousness...i don't have any problem with any BIKE it's the idiots that don't know road safety and ride like dumbasses that i have a HUGE problem with. i'm not ashamed to say i drive and when i do it's fucking lame to see one or 2 kids swerving around the right lane, cutting off cars, or making wide turns into the wrong side of traffic. SERIOUSLY that's not safe for me as a driver and it pisses me the fuck off and makes me wanna kick your ass. so no WONDER motorists who aren't cyclists hate ALL cyclists as a collective.
Out of a city of thousands of cyclists it's probably only 10% who are shitty unsafe riders. but nobody ever says "oh hey look at how safe that guy is riding!" It's just a handful of stupid ass people who make the WHOLE community look bad! and in t urn when i am on my bike motorists end up treating me like a punk ass kid despite the fact that i'm riding lawfully. and to that 10ish% i say
FUCK YOU!
ps. moar sax loop!
