Magicshine MJ-808
900 Lumen Max (though an exaggerated claim) / actaul 37 Lux measured (still good)

I'm probably stepping on some MTB toes by promoting this light here. Anyhow, I highly recommend many of you to fork out the cash and buy one.
At $85 (no tax) + shipping, this is an absolute deal.
I've been using mine for a couple of weeks and its been well worth it. These are intended to appeal to a broad range of cyclist, mainly night trail riders, but I think some of you really need to spend some dough on your safety.
We've seen some / read about accidents, so less than $100 for a light that comparable units would cost $250 - $400, is not money wasted.
some of you spend this much on a worthless set of wheels, overpriced messenger bags,a pair of jeans, or sneakers. Think about your safety this time.

I actually just watched the review I posted, and though its 10 min... you rarely get a review on products like that. The review is worth checking out, but it is summed up in the text. They're doing this whole comparison thing, so its been a little exciting.
Again, I own this light, and though it hasnt been around too long to really get the bugs out, I'm not sweating the money invested. I can see parts of the road I use to memorize at night.
Anyhow, this is one of few times I'll say: go spend some money.

I've been reading a lot of comments about lights.
I tried to give some attention to the above light (which has been updated). For those of you who have not ventured into the high end bike light world, these lights are pretty much becoming iconic in the mountain bike scene. The lights are put the pressure on other companies who charge 3x + for similar quality.
Again, this light really fallen off the radar except in the mtb world. User 1 recently had the ad in his hand, and was looking to buy one. I recently encourage AT to pick one up too.
i use the light, but i have the original version. Its more than you could ask for at the price. the biggest drawback in my mind is the lack of a really good charge indicator. When the light goes red, you really dont have a great guide on how much time you have left.
Other than that, its probably the best investment you can make... and a small price to pay at that. No tax I believe too.
If anyone buys the taillight, id be interested to here a review on it.
As a commuter light, it has been great. Just need one more for night trail riding.

I looked the Magic Shine and Niterider. I want the Nitride MiNewt 200 because you can really get its battery going for many hours

i use this, the only problem is that you need to water proof the battery, mine died last winter cause of the rain and i had to buy a new battery :-

updated version has a water-proof battery.
Im not advocating that this light is the ONE, but it's definitely worth the $$$.

tiny blackburn flea lights, they come with usb chargers, the front headlights are surprisingly very bright for their tiny tiny size... and they're like what, $20 for the front?

i clicked into the thread and was about to go "magicshine ; endthread".
not knocking on other lights but for the $, the magicshine system works. i know a couple other riders have it and on the dark century viii it came in handy on the river paths. i got the old version without the waterproof battery so i don't use it in the rain, and there may be some general QC concerns (as well as not the best design) but i've had mine for about 9 months now and have been pretty happy.
but actually, it's overkill for a lot of rides and if you leave the light on (eg, during a rest stop) the led can burn pretty hot without moving air cooling it. i don't even use mine all that much anymore, a cree led flashlight mounted onto the handlebars is sufficient for most riding i do.

Several (6) of us just ordered the Magicshine through User1.
Can't wait to get mine next week!
For me, its mostly about having a bigger presence on the streets at night. The light is hard for cars to ignore. I may stick with my dinky battery light while on group rides so as not to blind other ridazz.
I was impressed by the bright and wide illumination it throws down, which I witnessed during the river trail sections of last month's Dark century.
I ride the trails a lot after dark and alone.

That was mine!!! i cant recommend this light enough. on low setting, which is sufficient, it lasted the entire 10 hours of the dark century. thats TEN hours. yeah the draw back is that the batt. is not water proof but hey, nothing a small plastic bag and a rubber band cant fix.
