I can't accept that. This is my town too. I ride around here. (mostly at night)
I want to know what I can do to change the way things are.
I don't care what that takes.
People can't be killing kids for a stupid fucking bike. I'm sorry, but I want to go jihad on their asses.

I curious to hear what people can/should be done to deal with people in neighborhoods that you can not look them in the eye.
I came across a kid who had that deep sharp stare of "don't look back at me", I really don't appreciate that kind of energy in my own neighborhood.

I live in Highland Park, but do ride around Lincoln Heights when my friend has kickbacks at her house or when I have to pay bills (e.g., Gas and DWP). I did go to Lincoln HS and have to agree with the posted warning that tells everyone where not to go.
When I ride at night I usually ride along Broadway where it is reasonably well lit up with the street lights. But most of the time I do zoom home when I ride alone. But thank God that I have been fortunate. But my condolences go out to the family.

Raise the rents, beautify the neighborhoods and kick the brigand trash across the Colorado River where they'll be dealt with accordingly.
Or, realistically, move up to my area like they've been for the past 10 years and squat in the numerous end-results of the housing bust.
Only trouble now is they'll have to deal with the IE bangers that like to lay claim to anything east of the LA/San Bernardino Co line.
In all seriousness, this is usually what becomes of trash like the ones that perpetrated the murder, apart from the chance of them getting cuffed and stuffed.

**Udate to the story, what the press did not tell you or didnt know***
The boy was around lincoln park when he was confronted by two men. It was not because of his bike, but because he was a gang member/tagger. I talked to people that knew him and confirmned he was from a local gang. He was obviuosly not killed for his bike, but in the process his bike did get stolen.

The news media needs to get their collective facts straight before they run the respective presses.
But, this incident combined with the unfortunate thing that happened to in Culver City not too long ago are quickly cementing the idea into people minds that they could become the next victim of a violent bike-jacking.

The fact that this kid was murdered and an innocent bystander was shot saddens me. I feel for the family of both the deceased and the bystander. However in my experience riding through east LA is not as dangerous as one might think.
In the 3+ years that I have attended rides in East L.A. I know of only one incident where a firearm was used to attack cyclists. Of course this is one too many, but you have to consider that firearms and their use are a daily occurrence in this part of the city.
If you are just riding home and minding your own bizness then you will most likely not come to any harm, however If you get drunk and pass out in the park, you will wake up with only your clothes and a hangover.
If you act like an ass and yell at cars or force the right of way against drunk drivers and gang-bangers you will have more confrontations and raise your likelyhood of being in an incident. In conclusion "NICE GUYS GET HOME SAFE, ASSHOLES RIDE THE BUS -1 Bike.
I don't mean in any way to lessen the importance of this shooting or that fact that a bicycle was stolen I just want to point out that these types of incidents tend to instill more fear in the general public than is really warranted.
Mind yo bizness, ride at a good pace, wash yo nuts , dont be a dick and you'll get home safe

Agreed that there is more fear than warranted to our lovely LA city...however it is still a damn shame that people kill for something as trivial as "territory" I hope all of the other tag bangin fools on here to leave that shet for the huge Placas!!! No toy shet will ever fly, especially in peoples neighborhoods... Keep Graff respected too by keepin it where it belongs. RIP Miguel and Rot to whoever shot...even a pistol whip woulda been damaging enough..he was fokin 15..:(
