hit and run. his bike is totaled. says he's banged up good but no serious injuries.
just want to wish him a speedy recovery. also, the guy is seriously tall. if anyone knows of a good bike that might fit him, we should help him get something new.
also wishing anna a fast recovery. hope to meet her soon.

Do you know what size frame he rides?
I'm 6'1", and that guy towers over me.
Get well soon GAV!

I think he already got a slightly larger frame than what he was riding from the bike kitchen. ...unless that was the bike that got run over.
Heal up then ride on Gav.

A couple of days ago I saw a few tall frames and complete bikes on CL. I look at the OC and the LA CL. I'm not sure which one I saw them in.

thank you all for your thoughts. I'm going to be out of it for a while. I didn't break anything but my helmet(with the drawings) and my my bike.
I don't really know what to do about future rides because I am now afraid to do cross town rides at night by myself. No doubt the driver was drunk and probably leaving a bar. I don't want to get rear ended again and I don't want to be left for dead, on the street, again.

The poor driver was probably just baffled and panicked after hitting what he assumed to be the world's last hairless yeti, riding his bike at night in LA.

Hope you heal up quickly, that must have been terrifying. Was a police report filed? Even if there is no info to go on I think it is good for us to report these things to put pressure on the police to acknowledge the problem of hit and run drivers. There have been a lot of hit and runs lately in the news, and this is not something we want turning into a trend. A hit and run driver was just arrested this morning after killing a child, injuring another child and the mother in a marked cross walk. He had ditched his car, but the police caught up with him.

I kind of remember a cop questioning me in the emergency room, no questions of his come out clearly to me.
i can't say it was terrifying because i was knocked unconscious. so i just remember riding and then having paramedics all over me

There is a systematic bias against cyclists at just about every level of the legal system, and so I think it is especially important for cyclists to follow up on things like this and make sure an actual police report be filed. Cops hate to file police reports, especially for bike accidents, and just because they ask a few questions doesn't mean they are generating a report. This is often very difficult to do at the scene of the crime when a cyclist is hit and injured severally enough to not be thinking clearly, however a police report can be filed after the fact and if one was taken but is lacking details that should be noted you can amend the report.

I love you Gav! Heal up well! Take your time!! Aww man, this sucks!
We'll find you a frame! And we'll also find people to ride back with you across town *AHEM* that's ridiculous!

so a police report was filed and I have the information for it to check it out.
my mom went to the scene and found evidence, a trail of blood, to assume that I was dragged by the car which would explain why my clothes were cut and torn in the way they were.

Gav,
Heal up soon!
There have been a TON of larger bikes on craigslist lately, so hopefully you can find a replacement soon.
If you're filling out report forms, also fill out one with the DMV. It would be good to get these accidents on the official record as many places as possible.

Hey Gav! Heal up quick.
Regarding cross town rides late at night: I might get blasted for saying this, but if I have to ride back from downtown to my place on the westside alone anytime after 1-1:30am, I just bus it. $1.25 to make sure that I don't have to deal w/ any intoxicated variables that might be lurking on my way home is well worth it. At the same time, it solves the problem of your mother worrying about you everytime you go out at night from now on, and it also satisfies what you were saying about going home in the middle of the night.
Hope to see you soon

I've been looking at my injuries, my ruined clothes, bike, and smashed helmet. I can only attribute my survival to my helmet, even if it shattered, because it ended up being a second skull.
Yeah, we all hate how helmets look but just wear one because you won't appreciate it until you get really fucked but your head is intact.
