I'm thinking this is my bike that got stolen on my bday party.

its a shady craiglist post and the very little specifics they put match.

Call and tell them you wanna "check it out and see if it's comfortable".

did your bike have any kind of "scuff" on it? wow. yeah you should go investigate. that phone number looks weird for santa monica...

Roadblock

it's a massachussets area code. and yeah there was a scuff from the drop bars hitting the frame.

HANDBONE
07.1.08 - 9:13 am

reply

what's weird is that they are using a stock photo and not an actual photo of the bike. You have to always wonder about that.

ben dangel

yup.

theres absolutely no info about the bike except the size, wich matches, the straps grips and bars. sounds like the guy doesnt even know much about it to begin with.

shady. i'm gunna check it out today.

I always wonder about people who move out here and don't change there cell phone number to the area they are now living in. Like Marcus with that Texas number. Shame on you Marcus for not changing you cell. You say you live in LA with that 469 number, I don't know.

Remember that KHS made more then one model in that size. Simply look at it, if it is your bike and you have proof it is your bike (reciept with serial number, or just serial number, or police report that it was stole from you). You can tell the person you will go get the money, then you go to the police and have them recover it for you.

sexy

it didnt have any serial code on it but i have alot of ways to prove it's mine.

HANDBONE

C'mon sexy, that's silly.

Not everyone wants to change their phone number every 6 months. It's annoying.

kyber
07.1.08 - 10:04 am

reply

Thats the point I'm making. Nobody does nor needs to change their cell numbers. Most cell phone plans do not charge long distance charges. Most people are communicating with cell phones. It cost the same to call the 310 area code or the 845 area code, from a cell phone. People like to keep there phone numbers, no matter where they move. That is why congress passed a law that allows you to keep your number when you change carriers.

Yo, I can say with conviction that this is a shady seller. BUT it could also be mere coincidence. Call to check it out. Act interested and naive, and bring a friend in case shit gets heavy.

Also, I wonder if "bought new for $550 about a month ago" really means "I stole this from a party about a month ago"

can you even buy a fixed gear for 550 unless you build it?

Well, if the suspicions are confirmed, then I say we grab a couple of hard, pipe-hittin' niggaz and go to work on the home's there with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch.
If you're reading this hill-billy-boy, we gonna get medieval on your ass!!!

$550 is list price for that bike too. And I KNOW they don't come with risers, ourys, and leather straps.

the person who posted the ad may not be aware that it's stolen, but it doesn't matter. if he's selling stolen property, then he's breaking the law, too.

Just set the bike in the yard and go to opposite sides and call the bike. Whomever it goes to is the real owner and gets to keep it.

A good measure to take with your bike is to write your phone number, or address, or last 4 of your social on a piece of paper, laminate it and slide it down the bike's seat tube. It will be there should you ever have to prove a bike is yours.

Result?

i would say this is a good reason (if not the only reason) to pay $1 for a bicycle license.

i had my bike stolen when i lived in queens, and recovered it partially because i carved my social security number into the frame. when the cops showed up, i gave them all the info. the locals did not hesitate to snip off the cheap cable lock that the thief had strung around the bike. i did lose an $80 lock, though. also, the local crack addicts told me where i could find 'a bike' that i might like for a couple bucks. what a community!

that's a good idea!

imachynna
07.3.08 - 11:28 am

Putting your social security number where anyone can access it is a bad idea, particularly if you also have a bike license, since that will allow the thief to easily correlate your SS# with your name and address. Hiding some kind of identifying information on the bike is a good idea, so that there is no dispute of ownership when you find it, but SSN is not a good choice.
