None of those.
It's one of his special rides that's been going on for some time now, yet has remained below radar rather effectively.

Lets do SFV critical mass on the last friday of the month, like the LA one. An alternative to going to the police sponsored one. I think a main problem of the last one, was that it wasnt posted up on upcoming rides. Any thoughts?

SFV critical mass shouldn't change or move, it should still stay on the first tuesday of the month, its been like that and should stay like that. Only cus no one posted it last month we shouldn't have to change it.

Seriously, if you guys are too dependent to figure this one out, you shouldn't be attending any ride called "critical mass". It's a movement, not an individual effort.
I posted a ride I didn't even attend for nearly two years, and now that I rarely even come on this site, it's just a plain hassle to keep remembering to visit every month to post CM.
&&I never got an email from Mike. I've responded to dozens of new ridazz desperately expecting me to always be at my computer in the 30 minutes before CM starts just because I posted it, that responsibility is one of the reason I've gotten tired of being the one to always post the ride.

Im just looking for suggestions......i think the first tuesday of the month sux....why....because noone goes to that one ...(three people last time).....im not dead set about doing reseda orange line either.........how about sepulveda........? Van Nuys station?? Somthing in between NOHO and central valley.....?
I do think doing it on the last friday of the month is better...........i posted it up already for the 29th. Basically as an alternative for people who dont want to go to LA critical mass. well........?
shotgun_mike10.14.10 - 12:24 pm

I don't think competing with LACM is worthwhile. I would just go to LACM if I had to choose. I like having it on a different day because that lets people do both if they want (and I know I'm not the only one).
The problem with the Orange Line is it can only support 3 bikes at a time, unlike the trains that can take dozens.
You can't have a BIG ride in the Valley and say "it's Metro friendly, just off the Orange Line!" because Orange Line sucks for cyclists, even when your bike isn't getting jacked off the rack.
Yeah there's a bike path too, but for amateur / newbie riders to get to the start without taking the bus, that's a bunch more miles they have to ride.

This all stems from this idea that Trickmilla had about LACM -
"I think it would be much more fun and productive to have 5-10 rides of 100-300 people crisscrossing the city, smaller groups are more accountable to each other, and people act more like individuals than a mob."
Perhaps an All City version of Critical Mass could work out for this new year's eve?
Joe Borfo10.14.10 - 3:12 pm
reply
Ok, im not tryin to step on anyones toes.........
yes, i agree with Darth Borfo......better to have 10 rides with 2-300 people on them.
So, my compromise is.......i will change the meet point to NOHO station.....but lets have it on the last friday of the month......we are not competing with LA critical mass.......we are making it more LA city wide.......
IDK....suggestions again.......
shotgun_mike10.14.10 - 3:48 pm

It should stay at the same day & place, there's already to many rides that start in noho. I remember when mass was just a few people I remember when one time there was just like 10 of us. It shouldn't matter how many people come out to critical mass. If they really want to come out and ride they will.

regardless of the day, Critical Mass is really supposed to happen at rush hour. meeting at 7:30, riding at 8 is completely after rush hour - I think the ride should meet earlier.
ideally meet 6:30, ride at 7, or at the very latest 7:00 ride at 7:30
Ayla10.14.10 - 5:24 pm

That is the traditional start time, yes. Last Fridays are tradition too. However every city has adapted ways that work for each other.
The nature of CM should be adaptable. Just remember that.

Even 6:30 is pretty late. Traditionally defined "rush hour" lasts from 4p to 6p. Even if you gave that an extra hour you are starting the ride at the end of rush hour. If you want to get into the mix with traffic then you want to start even earlier. Like meet 4:30 ride 5.
You also run into the problem that ridazz need time to get to the ride after they themselves get off work. Tough to balance. By the time most people get from work to CM start who want to get to the ride, rush hour is already over by definition.

Just so you know the history of coming up with a start point and a time was decided amongst a few people on the la.criticalmass.yahoo group list.
The location was key to find a center point in the valley which could be easy for everybody to get to. If you look at the map of the valley. Rev106's Atomic Cycle is the center of the valley. He was cool with having it start at his shop, but we decided against it. We ultimately choose the spot that we did because not only was close to the center, it was off a major public transportation hub, freeway offramp( and easy parking for those who drove), had a grocery store that sold beverages passed the Ride's starting time. It was also close to some grassy areas if people wanted to kick it before the start in the summer time. We wanted to but never choose to meet in the park for fear of being harassed by park rangers or the national guard security.
If you move the start point to NoHo, it makes it much harder and takes more time for people from the other out laying areas of the valley to attend, such as the west valley. We choose this start point to get as many people out as possible and to try to make it fair and easy for all people in the valley.
The time was picked so that people could get together after work and school and have enough time to get to the start point and time before the ride left.
The day was tough, but there many of the other weekend nights where picked, (this was before there was multiple rides on a night and we didn't want to cross post with already established rides). We felt it would serve as a good hump day type ride. A couple of days after and before the weekend.
It worked out good for the first year and a half, had a low for a few months, then was revived by I think Danya taking promotion over and it look like it went strong for awhile. I think all that is needed is for someone to take the promotion on. I would suggest not changing the location and day, that would just confuse people who haven't come for a while and would like to attend again. I think it has been and remains a great start point.

Current start point is good and fair. Can't think of a better one. The Valley is just too damn big.

Spread the load out and over-extend the LE forces to the point where ticketing becomes an afterthought.
I believe this is part of the reason why the police drama in the Valley isn't as bad, too big of an area to cover, other matters to attend to.
Not to mention "bug-out" areas up the ass.

So you think if you move it SFVCM more people will come they might but your going to have to post it up for everyone to see that way more than 3 people will be there.Just like the problem last month nobody wanted to post SFVCM so no one showed up.THEY WILL NOT COME IF NOT POSTED.I been riding SFVCM for the last 3 years some good and some bad just wondering how long you have been riding on this ride
crossbones10.15.10 - 6:11 am

I dont ride SFVCM. I ride the LACM every so often. Basically, my thoughts on changing the date was to give the people who roll to the LACM the OPTION to go to a valley CM. I wanted to get MORE involved with the SFV riding community (more rides).....i was just suggesting something new. I didnt know who was in charge of SFVCM. I tried to contact the person sara? , anyhow, she didnt get my email...............and noone posted the ride. I wanted to pump the ride up. That is the point of this whole thread. It didnt look like anyone was in charge, so i was trying to be proactive and maybe draw some people away from the MEGA LA ride and ride the SFV (where they live). If you are running the show, take charge and post up the ride every month, if not dont be surprised is someone hijacks your project. Overall, it isnt that big of a deal to me. Ya know? No worries. PEACE!!
